Hey Guys,

I wanted to install CSGO on my computer without it showing up in "Programs and Features". Can this be done?

Maybe.

Install it on another system, then copy the install directory onto an external drive or other media, bring it over to your 1st system, and try to run the program. Some programs are self contained, others are not.

Or, run it inside a VM. It won't show up that way

His mom doesn't let him play violent games, so he has to install it incognito.

1) Would that slow the game down dramatically?

2) I might try VM. Any software you recommend?

change the game icon to "Hello kitty online" and then change the icon to match. or just make it look like minecraft. you can do this by clicking on properties and changing thing in the icons and files from there.

You can install it and then remove the uninstaller registry entries from:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

But be careful about messing with the Windows registry.

GPU performance gets butchered through most VMs, even those with hardware acceleration.

About the only way to decently virtualize games like that is with VT-d or AMD's equivalent and passing through your whole GPU. That requires either a Linux/BSD host (using KVM solutions like UNRAID and LTT's "X gamers 1 CPU" setups) or Windows Server 2016 with some very strict limitations.

But as mentioned above, make sure you install it to an non-standard directory, change the executable name and icon, remove entries from the start menu and desktop, and turn off search indexing on the folder it's located in.

Instead of deleting the key entirely, find the CS:GO entry under Uninstall and add a subkey to hide the entry from Add/Remove...

Type: DWORD

Name: SystemComponent

Value: 1

You need to install Steam for it anyway. Are your parents that non-techie that they don't know how to search files or google?

I never said it was easy, all I said was it's doable, and gaming under a VM doesn't take that much of a performance hit.....*providing* you have the hardware to push it.
