USB 2.0 cable with fast charging

So I have a car head unit with a USB 2.0 Type A output. Now I have a Pixel 2 with USB 3.0 Type C.

Is there a way, using something like a y cable or active extension I can have fast charging on my phone whilst being connected to my car, for android auto.

Nope. Fast charging is done by supplying more power through the cable than the typical 5V/1A that USB provides. Your head unit isn't likely to provide more power than that anyway. You'd have to use your 12V socket instead.

Cheers for these, but they don't allow me to connect to my head unit at the same time.

My head unit connects via USB as well.
