Hi friends,

So I started messing around with the base clock of my 1700, just to get more out of my memory (and for fun). I got it running at 3400 now (well.... 3395, close enough) CL14 and the CPU to 3.92ghz. I got the base clock set to 106.

I have been googling about information about how safe it is, problem is I see conflicting information. There's an article by Toms Hardware where they got it up to a whopping 143mhz (on a ryzen system):

Quote

On our configuration, we achieved a stable BCLK Frequency of 148 MHz with no USB- or SATA-related issues.

That got me thinking that my 106 clock is nothing to worry about. As I went on to read more about it, I read people "heavily advising against" using the BLCK OC method, saying that 104 is probably the max you should put it at.

What do I believe? Is my 106 clock frying things? Could I push it further considering the tom's hardware article? Everything is stress tested and works fine so far, runs like a dream.

System specs:

R7 1700 + NH-D15

X370 Taichi

Gskill tridentz 3600mhz

850 Evo SATA SSD (+ some random old hdd's)

can't you just overclock Ryzen normally??

I would only base clock overclock if you have an older locked Intel server CPU or something like that. I would recommend just overclocking normally but when your in games the base clock won't matter because it will just turbo up and if you OC it will go higher. so just overclock normally you would be better off.

Hope this helps  :)

oh if you want to oc ram you could just do that normally without needing to base clock overclock here's a link to a toms hardware forum post about overclocking ram on Ryzen

Thank you, appreciate it. Still curious tho if my 106 clock is fine or not.

I would say anything over 105 is a bit iffy but I would run a stress test to check if it is stable but I would go back to normal base clocks and just overclock your ram normally.

is it crashing, unstabile or giving you problems? if no then its probably fine. unless you do super critical things that should be perfectly fine

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)
