urgent URGENT - @BIOS ulility Issue updating bios

Hi guys,

 

I decided to do spend some time tonight updating drivers, firmware etc and decided to update my bios.

I have an i7 8700k in an Aorus z370 Ultra gaming 1.0, and decided to use aorus’s own ‘@bios’ bios update utility within windows to update my bios.

There was an issue connecting to the servers to download them directly in the app, so i downloaded the latest bios version (F8) from the aorus website and chose the file to use.

The update seemed to go fine, and the app said ‘update success’, however, the app froze when showing a message ‘rebooting’ (it said something about automatically rebooting in 10 seconds) and my whole desktop was then completely frozen (no mouse movement, cant access task manager, or start etc).

I turned my monitor on and off, in case that was the issue, however now it is displaying ‘no signal’...

I have located a similar forum post ( HERE: https://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=18415.0 ), however their first solution was not possible...

should I turn the PC off using my case’s power button and see if it boots as normal? I’ve never updated my bios before and I know it can be precarious, so I am weary to try anything... 

 

TLDR; Updated bios using  aorus @bios utility, windows froze after ‘update success’; what should I do?

 

I would appreciate some urgent assistance!

I mean, if the Utility says successful and it froze up.. you really only have one option to see if it worked and didnt brick your system... Turn it off then back on..

OK, i guess I’ll turn it off and try...

if it doesnt boot, what do I do then? Should I follow the instructions in the linked forum post?

You can try, but if it didnt go through, it will have bricked your board unless you have a dual bios

PHEEEW, just turned on and off, and it booted as normal.. thank god it didnt brick my board. 

I read on the linked forum post that it’s better to use Q-flash.. should I do this in the future?

Yeah its typically better to update the bios using the built in flash tool rather than through windows as it can cause issues like you have experienced.

That board has Gigabytes Dual Bios, so it SHOUD (but I guess it is not guaranteed) reflash the bricked bios with the working one from the other chip.

I don't think that's the case, because the utility now says it's running the NEW bios. So I guess the update worked, but it just froze everything for some reason when rebooting. Nevertheless, it's working now and it's safe to say I won't be flashing my bios unless I have to

My brother and I are with gigabyte boards and yeah the bios utility works  but can be laggy and weird at sometimes... i'm glad all worked out for you.

Yeah, it's a good idea, but it's a little sketchy in reality... can't say I'll be using it again; Thanks for the reply

Well yes because the update succeeded. If it didn't, the board wouldn't be bricked totally, as it would try to reflash the broken bios with the working one from the other bios chip on the motherboard.
