To Upgrade Or Start New??

HI Everyone,

Let me start by apologizing if this is in the wrong section, I wasn't sure where to post this as I am new here.

I'm thinking of changing teams and moving from Console gaming to PC gaming.
However my PC is... slightly old so I am wondering would it be better(cheaper) to upgrade it (if its possible) or start a whole new build?

As you can see from the pictures it has had a hard long life, any help would be appreciated, as I am new to this PC world.

Thanks in advance for any help you are able to provide.

PC Specs:

Gateway SX2802

- Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

- Intel Core 2 Quad processor Q8300

- ATI Radeon HD 4650 1024MB

- 4GB DDR2

- 1 TB Harddrive

Honestly I'd start new.

That CPU is getting too old and that power supply will not take any modern videocard.

Besides that 4GB's of DDR2 isn't enough for a lot of games.

When the PC is acting up haunted,

who ya gonna call?
"Monotone voice" : A local computer store.

*Terrible joke I know*

Thanks for the feedback.
If I start new what parts would you recommend? Ideally I would like it to be "VR-Ready" but not cost me an arm.

Budget is $1000 NZD.

Obviously the less I need to spend the better though, Looks semi matter I would like to have a black and green theme (Black case couple green LEDS in there).

But if it came to looks or performance then performance would come first.

Thanks again for the replies!
