60 or 144hz 1440p

Walt

Hi everyone,

I am planning on upgrading my 1200p monitor to a 1440p monitor. Since I have a gtx 1070 MSI Armor people say that I must not expect to get high fps in games. But when I'm playing games like for instance LoL, csgo and overwatch the 1070 can easily reach 144fps right? I understand not getting more then 60fps in games like Witcher 3 and Shadow of Mordor.

Can someone help me out if I'm correct?

Thanks!

My own build: RΛZΞR theme

CPU: Intel Core i5 7600K // CPU cooler: Cryorig H7 // Motherboard: MSI Z270 gaming pro carbon //

Video Card: MSI Armor gtx 1070 OC 8GB // RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB 3200MHz //

SSD: Samsung EVO 960 500GB // HDD: 2x WD yellow edition 2TB //

Case: NZXT H440 RAZER edition // Power Supply: Corsair RM550x //

Operating Software: Windows 10 pro 64-bit

I'd first say IPS or TN panel?

I'm not sure, I do not want to spend a lot of money. I know that if I want high refresh rate I need to go TN but I also really like good colors.

Can I see it as this?

- FPS games = TN

- Singleplayer story games = IPS

Depends on settings. Most people would also say that there's no point to get a 60hz 1440p monitor.

Owww so you mean that I can just lower the graphics to get the fps. Thanks

Well, if you can afford it, get 144Hz (IPS or AH-VA or VA if possible)

Is AH-VA or VA better then TN?

Just gonna throw my two cents in: I prefer IPS to anything else.

Sure, IPS is great.

I like VA because of the superior contrast to IPS but ghosting may be an issue on many of the lower quality panels. Overdrive may take care of that but its not guaranteed.

Still, anything but TN imo.

I think I'm going for an IPS panel. There are only no IPS panels with a response time less the 4ms. I was looking at the 'Iiyama ProLite X2788QS-B1' which has 5ms response time. Is this noticable?

I wouldn't consider it noticeable, my monitor has a 6ms response time. Will an Asus PG279Q fit in your budget?

ASUS makes a TN that would change your mind. Comes down to model to model.

I wouldn't buy a 60hz 1440 though, might as well jump up to 4k at that refresh rate, they've come way down in price.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
