Computer powered on and shutdown itselfs instantly..

Hey guys this is my second post, i have some problem with my computer right now, yesterday i set up my pc in the living room it runs fine and no problem... Since that my room already finish painting today i moved the computer upstairs in my room, when i tried to power on my pc the fans and lighting went on for awhile then my pc shut down itselfs like 1-2 sec after that.. when i tried to power on it again nothing happens.

Im scared that my pc had been short-circuit, then i tried power on my pc with just the essential hardware like processor, psu and 1 stick of ram.. after that the pc did turn on with no problem. I tried adding one more stick of ram and the pc runs fine too. After that i install my gpu and forget to change the cable from onboard graphic to the discrete gpu the computer runs fine and the gpu fans is running meanwhile my monitor didnt show anything. I shutdown the pc again then try connect the monitor directly to my discrete gpu the computer run for awhile and about 1-2 sec it shutdown.

Now im on my pc using onboard graphic with hdd connected and without the gpu.. so anyone could help me on this? is my gpu dead? or my psu cant deliver the power to my gpu anymore?(like its power degraded or something cause of short circuit?)

this is my pc specifications

i5-2500k

MSI GTX 660 Twin Frozr

4GB Kingston ram x 2

MSI H61-P23

FSP HEXA 500w

WD Blue 500gb

212 EVO

and can i try my gpu with my friend pc?(without breaking his pc?) he is using 600w psu

Thanks guys!

What are you using for cooling, it could be heat or your PSU

Normal case fan, and i have 212 Evo push-pull setup for my i5-2500k and i did not do any overclocking...

It might be your PSU, i don't trust it

Either a PSU failure or a BIOS POST failure. Try clearing the CMOS

Was your computer off when you moved it?

Was the only thing that changed between it working and not you moving it?

Check none of the cables came loose when you moved it.

It's unlikely to be your GPU that doesn't work because the system will normally not power cycle just because there's no GPU, especially if it's getting into windows (your picture above suggests so).

If it is only getting that far then just going black, it's probably your PSU (although it could be cables).

clearing the cmos? i did go to BIOS settings, and use load optimized settings this is when i power on the computer with just the proc, ram and psu and went

A friend of mine suggest me in the first place to try run the computer with only the essential hardware and from there adding 1 by 1 of the components.

It runs fine with the important hardware and he ask me go to bios and load the optimized defaults..

Clearing the CMOS is resetting the BIOS. Look in your manual.

the manual is not with me, i search How to reset the BIOS one of the alternative way is by going to the bios and restore factory settings/or to load optimized defaults. I did that

So your computer can get into the BIOS? Does it fail when loading windows or can you only get into BIOS on the iGPU?

It is probably a good idea to try it in another computer then, and there will be no issues with a 600W PSU. Just make sure you remove his GPU (sounds obvious, but I bet people would forget).

The first time i run the pc with only using processor, psu, and one stick of ram yeah i can go to the BIOS(with the iGPU that is) and i restore factory settings/or load optimized defaults.

Then i try adding 1 stick of ram it runs fine, after connecting the HDD i can load the windows, now im on my computer without the GPU.

Friend of mine suspect my GPU died/malfunction, i suspect the PSU power degraded and cannot deliver the power to my GPU.

So if i try my GPU on my friends computer its ok to do that? its safe?(scared breaking his computer later on..) If i test my GPU on his pc and able to load windows meaning the GPU is fine?

Moving the gpu will be fine, although it might not work as well as in would in your computer

Apart from by swapping the power supply into his/a known working computer, unless you actually have a power supply tester, there isn't much you can do. But the power supply is quite a likely cause of black screen crashes.

Odd. I would imagine the power draw of the 660 would be a bit higher than the 650, but not much and I'm sure it shouldn't draw more power on idle/boot than the 650 under load. Strange.

Still check your power supply I guess, but I don't know what to expect. And it's a lot of effort to sort out cables. But I don't know what else to suggest.

True quite a hassle to sort the cable later on..... can i like just use my friend psu and plug in to all my hardware without even the psu in the case....like a messy way to test the system? scared of electric static or somethjing...

That's fine, but then he has to sort out the cables when you give it back to him. You can't win.
