So I'm looking to build my first PC, it will be used for gaming (Fortnite, PUBG, COD, CS GO, (most games)). I have a $3000 AUD budget to work with, I am willing to go over the budget for better performance though.

GPU

I'm deciding between,

Asus GTX 1080 ROG STRIX

or

ASUS GTX 1080 Ti ROG STRIX

CPU

Also not sure which Intel processor will be the best choice for gaming (i5, i7-7700, i7-8700k, etc)

Monitor

I currently have the BenQ Zowie RL2455HM 24" Full HD Gaming Monitor and only going to be using one monitor.

Peripherals

I dont need any peripherals other than windows but just advice and help on what else I need to build the PC as best as possible for gaming.

Lighting

Also not sure if I should go for more performance but less or no RGB or more RGB but less performance.

Case

I'm not too worried about the case as long as it has a window and possibility to add lots of RGB fans or RGB strips.

Network

Gonna need wireless network adapter or whatever it's called aswell but that can be left out of the budget if need be.

Your help is much appreciated,

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Definitely get 8th gen if you're going with Intel. i5 is good if you're just playing, but if you're streaming I'd look hard at Ryzen.

Are you super eager to build now? We're only (potentially) a month away from the 1100 series Nvidia cards. They'll perform significantly better than what's currently out. If you already have a monitor do you have a PC to tide you over?

R5 2600 is likely the best value CPU to get

even a 1070 is overkill for 1080p, so maybe get a 1080p/1440p 144hz display or 4k 60hz display.

Don't need to spend $3000

Motherboard might need a BIOS update, could easily just get an X470 motherboard.

I am definitely going to go with Intel, I'm not planning on streaming and dont think I ever will. I am going to wait till July until I start buying and building the PC so no hurry. I do already have a monitor but only use it for PS4 gaming, also never owned a PC before.

Also, do you recommend I upgrade my monitor to a 144hz monitor if I plan on using a higher end GPU(1080, 1080 Ti, 1180)

Thanks

Thanks for the help,

So if I was to get a 144hz monitor what build would you suggest with the same components I originally suggested also what Intel CPU would you suggest for gaming (i5-6600k or 7600k, i7-7700k or 8700k) should I even worry about OC.

Thanks for the help

you could just get a $500 R4 2500G system and be alright for 1080p gaming. Tossing in a higher end GPU later.

In terms of monitors would you suggest,

Acer Predator XB241H 24in 144Hz G-Sync Gaming Monitor (1920x1080)

Or

Acer KG271UA 27in QHD 144Hz Freesync Gaming Monitor (2560x1440).

Or what other monitor would you suggest I buy for the build I was going for even though I'm not building now.

Thanks

Hmm. If you were getting a high end card like a 1080Ti, I'd try and get a 1440p GSync monitor.

If you're buying now, I'd skip the Z370 Coffee Lake and go X370/X470 and Ryzen because when the next Intel Chips (Ice Lake) appear to be using yet another chipset with Z390.  Seriously..........I think the powers that be at Intel are hitting the bottle a little hard.

Thanks, so which Ryzen chip would you suggest, I dont know anything about Ryzen or what chip is best for gaming.

Since I'm not building right now and will be waiting till July would you suggest I go with Intel and if so which one?

Thanks again

In July, I believe Computex will have come out, so if you're going to go Intel, wait until Z390 comes out with whichever 8-core chip they have.  The best value right now is X470 with an R7 2700x.  Multiple reviews gave this combination glowing praise.

So by July you would recommend I go with a new Intel chip instead of going for an older one like an i7?

I will also give consideration to the R7 2700x combination but will it still be worth it in July?

I have also decided to go for the GTX 1080 instead of the 1080 Ti so will it be best to look for a 1440p 144hz monitor?

Thanks

If the Z390 boards and chips are out by then - yes, if you're definitely wanting Intel - otherwise, go with 2700x for best bang for the buck.

I would say so, yes!

If you are looking for above 100hz on your framrates, then yes.  The 1080 is a great card that'll last you a good while.
