Even so we can all agree you should go with the i5 8600k instead because 4c/4t on 2018 is a no-no when you're already spending that much of money haha

Amen to that I still am thankful to @Morgan MLGman when I was still newbie 2 years ago and he helped me realize how much value the i7 6700 was facing the i5 6600k... this tech market really is something full of "wonders"

Yup, the 8400 is a nice middle ground in this case, especially in gaming. If not gaming then Ryzen it is.

Uhm, the i5 8400 is a 6C/6T CPU, not 4C/4T. So it is a perfectly good choice in 2018. https://ark.intel.com/products/126687/Intel-Core-i5-8400-Processor-9M-Cache-up-to-4_00-GHz

 

If you want 6C/12T you need to go to the i7 8700 or to Ryzen 5 1600 / 2600.

I reread your post, and you are quoting someone saying he should go with the 8400, and then you say: No he should go with the 8600K instead because you don't want 4C/4T. Nowhere in the post or quote mentions the i3 8350K. Not saying you didnt mean to refer to the i3, but the way you phrased it sounds confusing.

 

And anyway I do not agree, why would you bring up the 8600K in this thread? The OP clearly is looking at lower priced parts if he is considering an i3, so I would not recommend a 8600K, which is really meant for overclockers, when an 8400 would serve just fine.

@DocSwag and I both said he should go with the i5 8400 and if he needed the higher single thread performance from a 5ghz + overclock then he should save for the i5 8600k because the i3 8350k is a bad purchase due to its core and thread configuration nowadays.
