Motherboard Fried, Looking for Replacement for around $150 CAD

Hello there LinusTechTips Community!

So I was cleaning out my computer yesterday without an antistatic strap, and managed to shock my motherboard, and now it will not post. So I'm in the market for a new one.

My last motherboard + CPU was a Gigabtyte F2A-55M-DS2, and an AMD A6-6600k, a single core with two threads.

As you can guess a single core isn't too good for gaming in 2018.

I need a decent cpu + motherboard for 1080p gaming (to be paired with a Radeon R7 260x from Sapphire), and some light computational workloads (Rendering animations, 1080p video editing, stuff like that), for about $150 CAD. I also only have DDR3 RAM at the moment, and I'd prefer not having to get new, because RAM prices are still through the roof.

Thanks!

Honestly at this point you should probably just upgrade to a R5 1600 that is in a motherboard + CPU combo It is not worth buy a mobo for that CPU anymore.

Refurb?  I5, DDR3, reuse most of your stuff and you are good to go.  Even has PCI slots for your GPU.

First, welcome to the LTT forums!

Ok, back to business... You could literally buy an entire PC off of Ebay that is just as old and more powerful than that one, for half that price. That processor just isn't worth it.

Thanks a ton! It looks like it's $150 US though, which translates to about $192.38 CAD, a bit out of my price range.

This does look very promising. Will investigate more!

Ah, I think you were slightly confused, I am looking for an entirely new motherboard + cpu, but would like to reuse my other hardware (GPU, RAM, etc)

Just make sure the GPU will fit in the case or the new motherboard will fit in your old case.

Yes, I know I just was proving a point, this would be a better deal than just a new MOBO, though you could keep the GPU (since it only has integrated graphics), and some RAM, you could also port your HDD over.

It's one of those mini cards, so hopefully it'll fit.

It's fine, we all have those days, and I was being a bit unclear. I really hope you find a favorable config!
