I've just bought a new Motherboard and to get to the user manual to see what ram I needed to order I pulled out the motherboard and on the reverse side of the board a solder joint pierced the anti static bag and touched my finger and i wasn't grounded. Now i think it was just the mounting for the battery. my thought is I've also ordered a new CPU to go with it, if the board was affected could it also damage my chip.? The chip isn't installed yet. Cheers guys.. (didn't know where else to put the topic)

Nope, you'll be fine. People have rubbed themselves against chairs to generate static and touched parts of the computer while it was on and nothing happened either. Unless you're holding some really strong static charges then you didn't damage anything most likely.

Did you feel the static charge?

Unless you zap the bottom of the CPU itself, you're good :)

CPU and CPU socket are two things you should be careful about. Rest of the stuff should be fine. If you don't feel shock when touching, then there was nothing.

Thanks a lot guys. Cant believe how fast that was solved. I've waited weeks to get a reply on other sites. Thanks a lot....:D

At best, this is one of the fastest replying forums. At worst (without enough info or more trivial question) you can wait few days for single reply.
