Frame rates on Far Cry 5

Tellos

Ok so I run 16gigs or DDR3 133mhz RAM, a GTX 1080 superclocked by EVGA, Xeon E3-1270v2 ivy bridge CPU [base clock 3.5ghz turbo up to 3.9ghz 4c/8t] and neither CPU or GPU are hitting 100% at 1440P on a 144hz moniter on high preset. However frames seem to be ranging from high 50s occasionally to low 70 to mid 70s. What is going on?

Run DDU and re-install the Nvidia drivers.

I get similar performance with a 1070, i don't think the game is optimized too well. but it isn't unplayable.

That game relies heavily on single-thread performance which your CPU doesn't excel at. You're hitting 100% on a single thread which bottlenecks the others, which is why you're not seeing 100% CPU usage.

@Monarch cept all measurings dont shwo that happenign no core is being pegged at 100% all are roughly evenly used.

Are you looking at the task manager utilization ? Task Manager tends to split single threaded workloads to all cores, so it looks like all cores are used about equally, when in reality one one or 2 cores are used.

@gepowr no Msi afterburner

Well i experienced low cpu/gpu utilization in some games aswell. Try cranking up all the settings to max including msaa. This should put more stress on the gpu. If you have a 1440p monitor use its native resolution. If your 1080 isn't utilized 99% at 1440p max settings, it either is your xeon showing its age or your 1333MHz ram. Did you try overclocking it to at least 1600MHz? This may help in some games at least.

runnign at 1440p already @gepowr and MSAA is not an option for this game so using SMAA. also overclocking wont work on a xeon liek this one. Fastest IT supports is 1333mhz 1600 works on board but CPU will crash.

So basically you're running at 1440p completely maxed and are still not getting full gpu utilization? That's quiet odd since even an i5 4690k should be able to get a gtx 1080 to max usage (at least on 1440p).

Okay. Since you're using afterburner, can you provide screenshots of: Cpu usage, cpu temp, cpu clock, gpu usage, gpu temp, gpu core clock/memory clock, ram usage. Maybe your cpu/gpu starts throttling because it's overheating, or there's something else messed up with your clock speeds. You can always try to check if your system is performing as it should with running benchmarks like the 3D Mark Firestrike (which is free on steam btw, just get the demo version from 3d mark and install the normal firestrike benchmark then).

@gepowr I'll try it out when I can. But my hyper 212 evo usually can keep the turbo at 3.7 to 3.8 fairly consistantly.

Yep unless the 212 evo is not seated correctly, it should keep the e3 1270v2 really cool, it's a good cooler and heatsink after all. If it keeps the turbo running even after extended gaming you're usually fine temp wise at least on your cpu.

@gepowr hmm pritn screen doesint liek taking game images. But i did get soem of the data you wanted I'll have to work on screeen capturing what I saw on the game screen. But no cores ever got perminantly taxed and temps seemed to all remain in the 60s for everything. I'll try again later however.

You can use the nvidia overlay to take ingame screenshots. Alt-Z should open it while ingame.

Do you have FC5 installed on a HDD or SSD?

I have seen a few times now that the game lag and does not run so good on HDD, but helped alot to install on a SSD.

So if it is installed on a HDD, i will higly sujest to try on a SSD.

Then i think that is your problem.

If i remember correct its Caused by ubisoft drm antipiracy software and install it on a ssd seems to make run far better. But that is up to you now. I have told you what i know now.

Im running fc5 with a i7 980x oc 4.3 ghz and a gtx 1080 ti and installed on a ssd. That runs pretty great and my cpu is older than yours.
