Is it just me or our net work has no modem? All I see is a yellow cable coming out of our wall then to our router. I'm asking this because I want to see if it is possible to replace the router that our plan came with (I read somewhere that it might not be possible since the router itselft is what connects it to our isp?? idk)

I have little knowledge on this topic.

If you have a Fiber connection then you might not have a modem. Some Fiber providers have a box else where in your home where they convert the Fiber to Copper. In some cases its Ethernet and or Coax. It just depends on the provider and what service they offer.

Now as far as using your own router, that depends on the ISP. Some ISP's that offer fiber might use PPPOE like used on DSL to authorize your router on their network. Generally this means you have a user name and password that has to be entered in to the routers configurations. But again this depends on the provider.

If this is home use, a "modem" is sometimes built into the router itself,

More details are helpful. What plan, home, business, device information please

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

Depends where you are. Coax is rare here in the UK, it's mostly RJ11 for ADSL/VDSL etc. Still have a modem though.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
