Please help me find a new laptop.

I am in the market for a new gaming laptop. I want it to be a desktop replacement (no, a small form factor pc is not an option) in terms of capability, larger and more durable in terms of design. I would prefer a gtx 1080 with a 120 hz screen and QHD, but can settle for a 1070 with FHD or QHD with 60-120hz. Either way, G-Sync is a must. 16-32GB DDR4 RAM. SSD+HDD, 1TB+ in total storage. It will be used primarily for gaming, along with academic pursuits. Budget is 1500-2500USD, certainly no more than 3000USD. Will be playing games at ultra/high settings on AAA FPS titles looking to get 60+ FPS. All suggestions will be appreciated.

Clevo P750TM, P775TM or P870TM. I suggest to buy from hidevolution, they provide delid+LM.

These clevo machines are great, but I would also suggest the GT75 (8th gen refresh), and the upcoming AW 17 r5 also with coffee lake, I'd definitely say that you'll want a repaste on any of these machines, and delids on the desktop processors in the clevos.

All current gen asus machines have mediocre build quality and cooling potential, also 7th gen chips are getting obliterated by 8th gen is a matter of days.

Yeah but the laptops with them are still few and far between. esp. at this budget, besides the per core performance of Kaby lake is about the same so it shouldn't matter in games. Coffee lake chips just have 2 more cores.

I would not suggest BGA laptops for that price range, just my 2 cents

I would prefer the new gen of CPUs if at all possible, and size/weight are not a concern for me. I’d actually prefer a heavier/larger rig if it meant sturdier construction. Personally I am leaning towards a Clevo, but don’t have any problem giving other reputable brands (such as MSI) a shot.

Many brands don't make their laptops, this is done by ODMs like Pegatron, Quanta, Compal and of course, Clevo. MSI also design their own laptops but most of them use BGA CPU.

If you're wanting power and DON'T mind a ***LOUD*** (I cannot stress this enough) laptop when using maximum fanspeeds, the P870TM1 will be the ultimate unit. The other ones don't compare. It's expensive though, and I wish the build quality was a little better for the chassis and maintenance functions, but if you get it with solid work done from HIDevolution you should have no worries.

If you're in the single GPU range where a GT75 exists, it's a pretty solid unit that doesn't need to be purchased from HIDevolution who are generally more expensive than other resellers like XoticPC, but you will want a Svet mod (which costs a few dollars aftermarket from Svet on the MSI forums).

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

I'd say coffee lake bga will definitely be worth it due to the 4ghz all core boost that you can get out of that 45w 8850h (which will be in both the AW 17 and GT75) only a few hundred mhz less the 8700k all core (4.3) with a much lower power envelope. It might take some voltage adjustment, but I bet that you could get that boost to sustain under most loads and a slightly lower boost on overwhelmingly taxing programs. Not to mention that cpu's are fairly negligible for gaming as long as you have a decent chip (2600k and up) so performance should be good on coffee lake bga for years to come with the 2 extra cores and much higher boost clocks.

Eh, the 8700 can do 4.3 at 65w not to mention that coffee lake can do near kaby lake tdp levels even with the extra 4 threads. 7920hq can do 4ghz all core at the 45w so I figure coffee lake could do at least that with only a little extra juice 50-55, heat will be a bit of an issue on it unless manufacturers step their shit up on their cpu cooling.
