So there was this crazy cool series of events that happened to me a while back, and I’m still not over how cool it was, so I’d like to share it. To this day it blows my mind. I’m a terrible writer so I apologize in advance for any wacky and out of place grammar/spelling I use. Lets begin.

It was 5:00 am, Friday October 18th, 2013 in Kamloops, BC. Everything was shaping up to be just a normal day of work. The morning went by fairly quickly and nine o’clock rolled around. Lunch time. I did, as probably most of you do, pulled my phone out of my pocket to browse the ol’ Book of Faces. As I was scrolling down the list of useless status updates a picture caught my eye.

Backstory:
When I was fithteen, my brother, who was a computer tech at a local company, was able to snag me a job in the configuration room. I was still in school, so I only worked two days a week. Basically, I just built the cheapest office systems all day while the real config guy handled all the sweet awesome custom builds. It was still awesome because the guy showed me all the sickest builds he was doing and thought me a ton of stuff related to PCs.

At this point all I wanted to do was learn as much as possible about the latest and greatest hardware. I soon took up searching on YouTube for unboxings and reviews of everything i could. Watercooling was blew my mind it was so cool and I just couldn’t get enough of the tutorials of how to do it properly. I’d talk to everyone at work about how to install watercooling and everyone would laugh and say it was to expensive and risky, but i didn't care, I just loved learning about everything I could.

Around this time I had gathered enough money to finally build a gaming system of my own. From my GPU to my CPU cooler, Linus was my go to for information and I ended up going with a Tuniq Tower 120 as my first cooler ever. I’m fairly current that was one of his first videos.

Linus was awesome. His job of unboxing all these hot-off-the-press items was just simply the coolest thing on the planet to me. I watched everything he posted, sometimes multiple times. I really enjoyed his humor and personality and couldn't stop telling my brother about what Linus had said in his latest review.

Awhile later Linus released a new channel about his cats. I’m not a crazy cat man, but i do enjoy animals. Most of all i wanted to know more about Linus and try to get any more insight to what this man was like. I realize this all sounds stalkerish, but he was someone I really looked up to. Anyways, during these videos obviously I saw his cats a fair amount of times. I wouldn't be able to tell you what one is what, but they are fairly unique looking as far as cats go.

As the years went by and I moved onto different jobs I started to lessen the amount of videos i'd watch. It became uninteresting to watch videos of hardware i'd likely never beable to afford. Linus was still intelligent, cool, and goofy, but my passion for hardware had left me. Gaming/PCs have always been a part of my life, but it has become more of a light hobby than a lifestyle. I spend a fair amount of time on Youtube and have always been subscribed to Linus and always will be, but over time I watch less and less. I've barely seen anything since Linus broke away from NCIX. A video every now and then has kinda kept me in the loop of what he has been up to. I heard he had started live streaming and thought it was pretty neat, but again, didn't tune in very often at all. Once i tuned in just for 5 minutes or so and heard him say something along the lines of, "I've given up on Rocket. It's been over a month since he went missing. I have to hope he was stolen and is being taken care of." This was indeed sad news. It's obvious that in his videos he loves his cats and that they mean the world to him.

Back to the FB photo.

The photo was posted by a friend I had met back 8 years ago when I lived on Quadra Island for several months. She was from Campbell River, which is just a 10 minute ferry from Quadra. We hadn't talked or seen each other in roughly six years and were never very close. The picture was of a cat with the description, “This is the stray cat I now feed everyday....I just can't let it starve! He's really cute!” Something about this cat looked very familiar and within a few seconds I realized that I knew whose cat that was.

So many thoughts rushed through my head. How do I get a hold of Linus? He probably gets hundreds of messages everyday, how can get him to take me seriously? Is it really his cat?....wait....She lives in Campbell River and Linus lives somewhere around Langley...or is it Surrey? There's no way its his cat. I checked the post again, lo and behold, "posted in surrey area" at the top of the post. HOLY MOTHER GOOSE, this is the real deal! I realize I might not be able to get a hold of Linus easily but i need to try everything i can. Email? no, he is to big now to have a public email and keep up with messages. Youtube comment/message? yeah...that'll never work. Twitter? Probably not gonna see it, but it's all i can do right now. I quickly tweeted him twice saying something like "I think I might have found your cat! I'm at work, but ill get back to you with details asap!" Lunch break came to a close.

I made a twitter account solely for following and never had intentions of tweeting. It's quite unfortunate that my twitter ended up being @thebuttsnutts. It's a replacement for saying "The Bees Knees" that a couple friends and I came up with. Pretty awesome right?

Back to the crazy stuff. I happen to work at a golf course now so i was able to snipe a job of watering a particularly dry spot on one of our practice greens. Water hose in one hand, phone in the other, i tried to get a hold of my friend from 6 years ago, to see what the deal was. Was the cat in her house? did she just feed it and off it went or what? I didn't want to give Linus false hope. Finally, 5 minutes later I get a reply from her. "He has been living in my backyard for weeks. I don't wanna take him in as i have a cat of my own and i wouldn't want to risk them fighting." When i told her i knew whose cat it was I'm fairly curtain that she didn't believe me. She thought i was from Kelowna and I thought she was in Campbell River. I asked her to keep an eye on the cat and that i was going to try to get a hold of the owner. My last tweet was the picture she had posted.

10 minutes later my phone starts exploding with activity! People are retweeting and favoriting to try to get Linus to see it! This was an unbelievable experience, everyone coming together to try to reunite two friends. Didn't take long before I got a tweet from Slick and soon after by Linus. It should be noted that I'm a terrible texter on my phone so trying to reply to people quickly was a real mess. I use a twitter app called Carbon. I had never tweeted and in my attempt to reply to Slick i ended up accidentally retweeting him. None of these buttons made any sense to me. It probably looked fairly ridiculous.

To cut the ending a little short, by the time i got off work Linus's wife was on her way to pick up Rocket. Oh yeah, that dry spot I was watering? It's not dry anymore.

The things that came into play to make this possible were unreal. That I watched only a tiny bit of the stream to find out that Rocket was missing. I didn't think i knew anyone in surrey, but it turned out I did. That one person turned out to have found my favorite tech YouTuber's cat.

Linus, you've taught me so much over my teen years when computers were my passion and I'm so glad to have been able to give back. Merry Christmas!

P.S. I changed my twitter to @TzCoult in case anyone has a lost cat that needs to be found. This way it wont be so awkward when I tweet you with good news. also i hope my writing isn't to unbearable.
