Is gaming the primary priority? Yes, get i5-8400. Though waiting for Ryzen 2600 benchmarks is a better approach.

Now that the B360 and H370 chipset motherboards are out which would you recommend for a decent mid range PC setup? 

Should I go for Intel or just wait for Ryzen 2000 series?

Ryzen 2 launches next friday. Judging by the specs, the 2600 or even 2600x will be AMAZING bang for the buck (provided you already have nice RAM).

 

What setup do you have? Are you upgrading a current system or building one from scratch? What are your goals with the build?

TBH you should wait for Ryzen 2, and then either get the new Ryzen chip or get an R5 1600 which will surely go down in price even further.
