PC Not posting after using doa psu

Go to solution Solved by Astrah,

Well this is odd, the cmos thing didn’t work, but  I installed a motherboard speaker I had lying around, the thing beeped once, the orange led flashed white twice, and it let me boot

I bought a refurbed psu off Newegg (RM650X) and it turned out doa. I put my pc back together with my old psu and it wouldn’t post even though everything was powered on. I had no time to sit and try every solution because I had work. There was however, an orange led next to the dram slot. I got home from work and rebooted my system (which I had left running) and it actually posted and booted me into the bios where I successfully started up windows — everything worked fine and I was able to use my system, all ram detected and running at regular speed. Just now when I tried to boot into the bios to change fan rpm and I have the same issue as earlier. No post and an orange led next to the dram slot.

Specs:

Ryzen 5 1600

Strix 1070

16GB TridentZ

Strix B350-F

EVGA BQ 500

Side Notes: I’ve tried reseating the ram, using only 1 stick, putting it in different slots, removing the cmos battery for a couple seconds, and reconnecting EVERY cable in the system.

1) Never buy a refurb PSU no matter who did the job.

2) It possibly did damage to the mobo.

3) Was there any issues with the old PSU?

4)  Remove the CMOS for 5 minutes, not a couple seconds.

There was no issues with the psu I was using previously but I purchased another one for aesthetic purposes

It possibly damaged the mobo or CPU.  CPU is least likely.

Any idea why it still worked like normal after it ran like this for hours? Like I said, I went to work and left it running and when I came back I rebooted it and it posted.

Well, the first time he only did it for a few seconds.  I suggested trying it for 5 minutes.

I think it's a case of damaged parts, personally.

Yeah, I don't think the cmos resets that fast. I either use the CMOS reset pins (if present) or pull the battery and wait a while.

It sure would suck if it was damaged. In my case, the two PSUs I bought would just bootloop indefinitely (and the two replacements for those did the same...the 5th replacement still works, but the 6th is retired since I have a server case now...not even sure if the 6th one works now. Yeah, I went through a lot of RMAs. haha)

I had a case of the power company shut the power off on the wrong day, before the move, and I got a dead mobo.

Well if the psu they replace this one with doesn’t work or dies within 2 weeks I’ll buy a new one, assuming I fix this issue.

Yeah, I would look to see if you have CMOS reset pins and try that. Else, I worry if your mobo / CPU got damaged somehow.

The pins are visible and I shorted them according to the manual, I removed the battery also, been a couple mins now.

Yeah, you'll know if you get that new CPU detected warning on boot up if it's cleared correctly.

I hope it fixes for you...else corsair's customer service is pretty great at paying for parts that failed due to their products usually (if the AIO reviews are anything to go by).

Well, from what I heard that orange led isn't a power indicator.  It means there's a HW issue.  If you have a speaker listen to the beeps and match them up with the codes listed in the manual.  That will tell you the exact issue.  Orange has to do with RAM, actually.

Correct, the led that’s lighting up orange is the one that matches up with dram

I'm guessing the PSU is the problem. If not then it probably fried something when you used it.
