Problems with 4790k overheating

Go to solution Solved by Jurrunio,

the problem is the pitfully weak stock cooler. The free-of-charge way is to undervolt the CPU, the more reasonable way (considering this chip is overclockable), is to buy an aftermarket cooler. Hyper 212 is the bare minimum.

The cpu runs at around 40-50 degrees while not gaming and goes up to 85 degrees when gaming. Thermal paste and cooler are stock. I did CPU stress test and temperatures went up to 90 degrees in like 3-4 min and then my computer crashed. What should i do, should the processor regulate its temperature so it never comes so high, where do you think its problem?

update your cooler to like a hyper 212 evo or something if your on a budget.  If you dont wana replace the cooler then replace the thermal paste

Because Intel is premium :P

Jokes aside, replace your thermal paste at least and if you can get an after-market cooler... There are cheap ones (20-30$) that could a much better job than yours.

Turn the voltage down and the fan up. Problem solved. Temps are fine.

Well, i tryed putting voltage down from 1.2 V to 0.9 V. No sucess, you guys think cooler its stock cooler fault. I read some forums and other people sad they also have issue with i7 4790k overheating. Is it worth it to buy Hyper 212 ? Or should i just try to replace termal paste?

Do both. If it isn't crashing while being used correctly, there isn't an issue. Shouldn't be dropping the voltage that low anyway. It will do that by itself when idle.

They don't. Devil's Canyon is the last one to include a stock cooler with unlocked chips.

Replacing the thermal past will help some. I'd recommend getting a Cryorig H7 though.

1) The stock cooler works if you're running stock speeds. I used it on my 4790k for awhile. I even did some very slight overclocking after replacing the thermal paste.

2) Show a little civility. Proper grammar goes a long way.

3) The Hyper 212 Evo is NOT trash. It's only recently been overtaken by the H7 and king budget cooler, and it's cheaper.

No, but the Evo has a shitty fan and is damn near impossible to mount.

The H7 isn't much better.  I've used both.  The Evo is harder to mount because it's compatible with so many more sockets.
