Whats a good CPU for the Zotac 980 TI AMP

harleyjfret
Go to solution Solved by Crunchy Dragon,

If you don't want to change platforms, an i7-2600K would probably work.

If you do want to change platforms, but not shell out for DDR4 memory, a Z77/3770K combo or Z97/4790K combo will work.

I've been running into heavy bottlenecks with my GPU recently due to the fact I have an I3-2100

Are there any CPU's you guys could recommend? I'm only looking to spend around 200 for a CPU right now.

you plan to buy a new motherboard and memory? or you plan to stick with the board you already own? what motherboard you have? and memory wise, what do you have?

So with the  i7-2600K my mobo will do just fine for this?

mehh...you won't be able to overclock it, and it's a very low end board...and you only have 8GB of DDR3 ram...and it's slow RAM as well...

i think at this point it would be better to sell your kit (CPU/RAM/Board) and order something new...like a Ryzen r5 1600 or i5-8400 with a cheap motherboard and 16gb of DDR4 memory.

I don't really plan on over clocking and yeah i was thinking that but I don't plan on spending to much either

It depends on the pricing, but I think an i5 or i7 from that generation, compatible with the existing mobo, shouldn't be ruled out from consideration. See what's available locally before you drop the cash on replacing it.

What comes to my mind is the fact of resolution.. when your gpu is running @ 100% the CPU is enough. Lets say 1440p mid details than is an i7-2600K quite enough.  Just create an gpu bottleneck.

any z77 will push that intel far enough. Ebay or an craigslist equivalent is a good source.

Intel  i9 13900k

From my experience with similar setup, It will bottleneck for sure in some CPU intensive games.
