I've been running Windows 7 on my computer for ages now.  When Microsoft offered the free upgrade program I took advantage of it and absolutely hated Windows 10.  There were plenty of issues with hardware and drivers immediately after launched so I rolled back to 7. Apparently because I once had 10 installed, I can still reinstall it.  Now that it is a few years later, how good is 10?  Is there anything that I am really missing out on by not upgrading? Will I see any better overall performance in day-to-day tasks, heavy workloads, or games?  Or is it just a matter of new bells and whistles?

I've rebuilt my computer entirely since I first started on Win 7 so I am using all recent hardware.

I mean something like a sandy bridge i5 or any lynnfield CPU, sandy bridge i7 or ivy bridge should be good enough for it to not microstutter and lag; my i5 2410m runs LTSB quite well, just some micro stuttering with a SSD

Windows 10 works perfectly fine from a consumer standpoint. I have had no problems with it. With that being said, I work for an engineering firm and were in the process of upgrading our laptop fleet to systems with Windows 10. The issue is that for things were connecting to and for software we need to run, support for Windows 10 doesn't exist yet, meaning that our new shiny expensive systems are basically useless.

The same as launch with less driver crashes, the only thing you are missing is dx12 nothing else that matters

I use 10 with all of the bloatware uninstalled and a ton of services disabled, works like a 7 but has a different visual style, that's all

all of my programs work, I don't use the "microsoft store" so I also deleted it using a program and the takeownership command, a big complaint about 10 was control panel and I must say control panel is still there, you just have to create a shortcut

I'd just use 7 but there's a problem, 7 doesn't supports Z370 boards or new CPUs, I did installed it tho, but it was unstable with constant BSODs and random freezes, the sleep option was unavailable so.... depends on your hardware

All new CPUs run on Windows 7. And AMD even has full Windows 7 drivers for Ryzen / Threadripper.

Also, the artificial block Microsoft put on Windows Update with newer CPUs can be easily removed with this patch:

Here's some information I found about installing Windows 7 on a Z370 board, and it sounds like the only thing not working is the on-board graphics.:

It looks like Gigabyte has Windows 7 drivers for its Z370 motherboards:

It looks to me like Asus and MSI also have Windows 7 drivers for their Z370 motherboards. I don't know if they cover everything or not.

That's the sad truth, yes. OEMs aren't allowed to sell Windows 7 and 8.x anymore, so you're stuck unless you buy refurb units from 2014/2015.

my mobo CD has some drivers for windows 7 but they just made the OS perform worse for some reason, I managed to get it stable at some point but as soon as I let the computer idle it'd just freeze and the only solution was to restart it, no error messages, nothing in the event log, I did asked in forums and no one was able to tell why it was freezing except for the chipset being incompatible with the OS so I ended up installing 10 that works fine using a local account

I've noticed that a lot of people recite bad info about Windows 7 compatibility with newer hardware in this forum, like they just assume it to be the case that newer hardware = Windows 10 because Microsoft has conditioned them to have that impression. Or, that maybe some of them are deliberate Windows 10 propagandists and tell people false information purposefully, because it rubs them the wrong way to see people make their own choice and choose to use Windows 7.

I don't know what the cause of your problem was (maybe installing 32-bit drivers instead of 64-bit?), but Gigabyte has Windows 7 32 and 64-bit chipset drivers for your motherboard:

Oh, I'm defintely going to try again then, good thing is that there's no need to modify the boot media since I still have the original DVD so it doesn't needs USB 3.x drivers
