Hello!

I'm planning a new build with a Ryzen 7 1800X (or a 2800X when it's released/2700X if there isn't a 2800X), 16GB of RAM (to be upgraded to 32GB in the near future), and a GTX 1080. I would like a quiet system that would not be disruptive when doing work (mostly video editing and graphic design work). I was definitely considering a BeQuiet! case and I'm a bit unsure whether or not I should go for the older Silent Base 600 (with window) or the newer Pure Base 600 (with window).

Considerations:

For the GPU to fit, I would need to remove some of the drive bays in the Pure Base 600.

I would like the quietest option, but also one that has good airflow (It doesn't seem that either is exceptional in terms of airflow, but hopefully good enough).

I personally like the look of the Silent Base 600 better.

Thanks for your help! I'm just a bit stuck on which one to go with. If the Silent Base 600 wasn't 2+ years old, that would be an obvious choice, but I expect that BeQuiet has probably greatly improved their newer cases.

Hello! It's me just passing through :)

Just go for the Pure base 600, but there's plenty of other silence focused cases

Anything silence focused is going to make your stuff run hot though.

You probably don't need 32GBs of RAM

There's also a lot of upcoming cases below.

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Thanks! I was leaning towards that. For comparison purposes, what makes the Pure Base 600 a better choice? And I do a lot of video editing work (including a lot of 4K with a lot of color grading). My current build has 16GB of RAM, but when editing, it always spikes up to about 15GB when editing. That is why I think I should probably upgrade to 32GB. I will definitely see what I think after I build it with 16GB, though.

Thanks :)

Do you really need 100% silence? Because if you're doing a lot of heavy work on your PC hardware I'd probably suggest just grabbing an H500P mesh so you have solid airflow/cooling or like a master case MC500

The problem I have with the Pure Base is that, while it's super silent, its thermal performance is also not that good at all. Especially if you take a look at GN's R6 review, the R6 isn't horribly far behind in noise but delivers 10C ish better thermals across the board.

Unfortunately, there aren't many good reviews of the thermals of the silent base 600 so I can't properly judge it :(

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

That looks like a good option. I'll take a look at that. I don't want anything that's too loud that it's annoying, but if this would work well, then that would be awesome :)

Thanks! That's what I found as well looking at the Silent Base 600. It was mostly just old Hardware Canucks reviews that didn't have thermal performance.

That's the tradeoff of a modern Case.

There ain't no magic or secret sauce...

You can have it silent or you can have good thermal performance but not both...

And with a bit higher fan RPM you might get better results.

Also the Silent Base 600 comes with only two fans. That's also something to consider. And they are only 120mm too,

The Silent Base 800 comes with 3 fans and 7 HDD thingys.

You can add another two at the top.

And I'd recommend at least one.

The advantage of the be quiet cases are the be quiet fans!

Yep. I was wanting to find something with a good compromise between noise and airflow, but it doesn't seem that that will be the case. I wanted to go with quieter fans at least, so I feel that I would be replacing the default fans of most cases to some sort of BeQuiet! fans to make it quieter. I will continue to look for a good option in terms of airflow vs noise production. Thanks :)
