Xeon E3 1230V2 Overclocking.

Go to solution Solved by TechFan@ic,

At stock the chip will run at 3.5Ghz constant turbo on all 4 cores, with multicore enhancement that will go up to 3.7Ghz (you will need a board that supports this), with BCLK overclocking of 103 you will be able to get it slightly over 3.8Ghz, some extremely high end boards will run stable at a BCLK of up to 108 but most boards will not go over 103.
Anything over 3.8Ghz will require exceptional skill.

I was wondering how would one go about overclocking a Xeon E3 1230V2.
Does it support limited multiplier overclocks up to 4 bins like the i7 3770 ?
Can the multi core enhancement features that force all cores to run at their maximum turbo at all times be applied to it ?

Zero bins up,completely locked.Only way is BCLK OC which you should not use.

Possible but limited and complicated.

We talking about BLCK Freq overclockink, right?

Which boards support multicore enhancement ?

You can overclock a Xeon, but for the love of god, please don't. Xeons are not meant for overclocking as they are designed for use in servers where there and hundreds of them and they all need to be kept cool to prevent damage to them.

Which boards support multicore enhancement ?

All Asus & Gigabyte Z77 boards enable it by default, MSI & Asrock released newer BIOS versions that include it as well but keep the setting disabled by default , so you will have to go to the BIOS and enable it yourself.

A Xeon E3 1230V2 can be overclocked to 3.8Ghz with MCE & BCLK, an i7 3770 to 4.3Ghz with MCE, limited multiplier overclocking & BCLK and a 3770K has a fully unlocked multiplier up to 63X.

You can OC a Xeon... but it is not worth doing cause it just causes more issues than it solves.

Xeon's are designed for long term use at a stable temp, when you OC you lose the stability of the chip and the thermal threshold is put out of balance.

Trust me, from my experience it is not worth doing

Money doesn't grow on trees a 3770K is a hundrad dollars more expensive than the xeon.

Thanks for all the info, I'll try to grab an i7 3770 used, if I can get one for 230$ or less I'll go for it, otherwise I'll grab a used xeon.
