Hey guys, I got this old UPS that i used to use, any ideas on what can I do w it? Anything to make it useful again? I stopped using it on my pc cuz its battery is almost dead and it was causing me bsods. Can i use it for anything else? Ps: i opened its case up in a rough way and now it doesnt have a cover, tho im almost certain that its fully functional

I mean, you could try replacing the battery if everything else works and the power delivery is not screwed up.

Not much... you could maybe reuse the transformer for an audio amplifier, but it won't be a high power transformer, maybe 50-100w and one that's not very great...

IF it's the kind of UPS i think it is, the transformer on those is often designed with the idea that it's not used a lot, that you'll use the transformer for a few hours to charge the battery after it discharges during use, so they don't care that the transformer will overheat for a few hours, as long as it will last let's say 100-200 such full charge cycles, enough to last more than 2-3 years of warranty)

If that's the case and you use the transformer to power an audio amplifier 24/7 the transformer could overheat and burn out eventually

The battery is standard 12v  7Ah or higher battery for motorbikes or small cars.  There are versions of batteries more "optimized" for UPS (more continuous discharge instead of high bursts of discharge like when you turn on the motorbike)

The capacity will be listed on the battery. As for cover you can use pretty much anything to cover it.

There's a chance the battery is dead.. these batteries don't "like" to be discharged under around 10.5v and left in that condition for a long time.

Simply put they won't hold charge anymore if you keep doing that.

They also don't like to heat up when they charge, and this happens in closed devices like the UPS...

Normally, you would just connect the battery to the UPS with the wires it came with and plug the UPS in the mains and the UPS will slowly charge the battery, but if it doesn't charge you'll have to replace it. It would take around 6-8 hours at the least.

Go to any auto / motorbike store with the dimensions of your battery and you'll find such batteries on their shelves.

It's a 12v 7Ah battery as the code says 12V7.0AH

You could make a powerwall. Just swap the batteries and wire it into a room. I know Electroboom on youtube has powered a room off an inverter by pulling the breaker to that room, then plugging the inverter output into the wall. Then for the battery bit, check out Jehu Garcia on youtube as well.
