Recently I got more and more into photography and so I'm using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to edit my pictures.

For this task I want to build a dedicated workstation and so I want to plan ahead.

I needed a second system anyway, if friends would come over to play a few games together, so ideally I want to combine both into one system.

Requirements

So basically I need the system to handle following tasks:

  1. Render 1:1 previews and convert pictures into .DNG within Lightroom
  2. Photomerging and HDR creation within Photoshop
  3. Export high resolution images within Photoshop and Lightroom
  4. Occasional PC gaming at 4K60 for games like World of Tanks, Fortnite, Rocket League, Overwatch, ... (Definitly not very demanding games)

I already have a Corsair SFX 450w PSU and want to put the system in the Louqe Ghost S1 case.

That means it requires ITX components, good performance and yet needs to be efficient enough to not exceed the power limit or thermal throttle under heavy load.

What I already know and need help with...

I already looked into the following topics by Puget Systems, but want a second opinion on this, as I wanted to go with an 8-core Ryzen CPU at first, but it seems like I'd be better off with a 8700k.

https://www.pugetsystems.com/recommended/Recommended-Systems-for-Adobe-Photoshop-CC-139/Hardware-Recommendations

https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Photoshop-CC-2017-1-1-CPU-Comparison-Skylake-X-Kaby-Lake-X-Broadwell-E-Kaby-Lake-Ryzen-7-976/

I also need help with choosing a GPU.
I'm pretty sure that a 1060 6GB can handle the games I mentioned at 4K, but I'm not 100% certain. Maybe someone else has a bit more experience when it comes to that.

Just to clarify - I'm not looking for specific hardware recommendations, but rather just a bit of input and opinions.
Maybe I missed something or someone has a few ideas that help me with the final build. Basically anything that could be helpful :)

Thanks in advance guys! ^_^

world of tanks has got a big graphics update, even my 1070 can only barely handle 1440p maximum settings 60fps. With a 1060 6gb, I expect medium/high settings for 4K 60fps. Ok with used cards?

I don't expect the game to run on max settings. Medium would be fine ;)

But there seems to be something wrong with your game then.
I get around 90-120 FPS with a GTX 1080 at 3440x1440 at ultra settings.

I'd expect your 1070 to easily reach 100FPS at high settings at 1440p. =/

Oh and components will all be new. No used parts :)

I turn everything all the way up :D

this card was able to run 4k 60fps with ultra settings, until patch 1.0 came out

If you can find one, 580 8GB > 1060 6GB for LR and Ps because of the framebuffer. It will use as much as it needs and that can be an insane amount.

Otherwise, looks fine. 8700k > Zen here as both of these programs have a severe Intel bias.

Finding 580s won't be a problem - just finding one for a decent price. Thanks for the info! :)

Alrighty, then it's Intel time again, but I don't think they are "Intel-biased". Just looks to me like they prefer core-speed over core-count.
