Everything I hear is picked up through my mic

I am on PC, and I use headphones with an in-line mic. The mic works fine, but whenever I play anything in the background whether it's music, games, whatever, the person on the other end can hear it clearly. I know that this is a problem that comes with using an in-line mic, but I'm wondering if there's any way of solving it without buying a boom mic.
