I currently attend a college that blocks VPN connections; I think.

I have an OpenVPN server at my house that fails to connect when I'm in school, so I tried TunnelBear. It still fails to connect when I'm on the school's WiFi. I can connect to both my home server and TunnelBear when I'm on LTE. What could my school have possibly done to block all vpn connections? Also of course, how do I get around it?

Most schools will use Internet filtering which is most likely what is blocking your connection. These things are blocked for a reason. You shouldn't be attempting to bypass it, as it probably goes against the school's AUP (Acceptable Use Policy), therefore you could get into trouble.

Why are things like this blocked? What would happen if you connected to your home PC and then started looking at porn, researching how to make bombs, or looking at race hate material? These are just some examples of content that schools have to block legally. When connected to your home PC, you're not being filtered by the school's systems, but you're still viewing the content on the computer in the school, therefore the school's responsibility.

Stop and think a second, something is more than nothing.

Talking about piracy in general, broad details, is acceptable however the posting or discussing pirated/hacked/cracked or otherwise nefariously obtained content is not. This includes Windows content, games, hackintosh, etc. Also discussions regarding ways to avoid or block legitimately installed monitoring/tracking software or the like is also not allowed.

I'm not interested in doing anything illegal. I just want to use a vpn to prevent my school from snooping around where I'm browsing, since I have to use my school username and password to use the WiFi.

If your school doesn't allow the use of VPNs then you should follow their rules. You can get in serious trouble.

As mentioned above, discussion on how to bypass this isn't allowed as per the Community Standards.
