As long as it (or the tray) is screwed in to the case in some way to keep it stable, it should be fine.

In fact, you would be possibly better off screwing it down to the bottom directly.

The tiny white rings are vibration dampeners. Realistically the vibration produced by the disk itself won't hurt it by any noticeable measurement. If it did that'd be a failure of a product.

My server has eight 7200RPM disks cramped right up against each other in metal/plastic sleds. No vibration dampening. It's been a good 4 months and they've been running fine (one died from an unrelated issue though).

The dampeners are more for stopping the whole case from vibrating causing noise than protecting the drives from vibration itself.

That's mostly true. "good" drives for 24/7 operation have mechanisms to mitigate vibration internally. that being said, it does still help; both the drive and the system as a whole. So, if I could modify my recommendation to specify that you mount to the case floor directly, but with dampeners between the screws and the drive, that'd be the ideal config for you IMO

It lays utside down so that the sata powercabel doesn't get bent. This result in the metal cover of the drive touching the case directly and its not screwd down. Do you think that this is dangerous for the drive? It's been laying like this for about 2 months.

Probably not, but i would advise just putting in some dampeners and doing what I said. the spacing they will add can alleviate your concern if you use thick enough spacers.

Ok. I took some thick dubble sided tame and used it to secure the hdd to th bottom of the case. Do you think this is enough?

probably, yeah. as long as it won't move around, that's the objective
