So I made a budget build with a G-4560 and a Gigabyte motherboard. I’m trying to decide between the i7-7700K and i5-8600k. My problem is the i7-7700K would be the cheaper option in my case due to having to buy a new motherboard and cooler for the i5, where I could buy a bundle for $500 on Newegg. I need advice on if the price difference is worth the performance increase.

I'd just wait for Ryzen+ coming out next month and see if that's a better option.

IMO, any upgrade that you can truly afford to increase performance is worth, so I would go with the i7 if you absolutely have to. Buuuuut you should wait to see what Ryzen+ performance is before you buy anything. :)

If I had to choose between my computer and girlfriend, well lets just say you can play more games when single.:)

Guys, Ryzen+ isn't magical. It's not going to be a game changer. A 7700K will still be better at pure gaming. Plus, the cheapo memory that works with this Pentium probably won't work on a Ryzen board and hurt performance badly. Let's not shove everyone to the Ryzen camp when it means they have to spend another $100 on a board, $200-300 on a CPU and another $100-200 on memory.

Wait, don't you need a 300 series board for 8th gen chips, and a 200 series board for 7th gen chips? It seems like you can't put 7th gen chip in a 300 series motherboard either. So what board do you have right now OP?

Desktop: i9 11900k, 32GB DDR4, 4060 Ti 8GB 🙂
