How long will the GTX 1060 3GB last?

I play at 720p atm at 60hz with a gtx 1050 2GB and will not get a 1080p monitor till months from now (Money issues, i should really get my own job). The games i intend to play are destiny and assassins creed preferably on the PC, i already have overwatch and other not so demanding games. The reason im upgrading is because my gtx 1050 struggled already with assassins creed 4 at max settings and i would see drops in frames on some days with loading in glitches and other days it would be just fine. I will also be playing prey 2017 not sure if there will be a sequel to that anyway. Im considering selling my gtx 1050 for its msrp (Theyre selling way more now than ever) for even more money to buy the 6GB version, but i just wanna know if it would be worth it? i already ordered the 3GB version and its coming this week but i can cancel it, last chance for me to choose the 6GB version and i would like to hear your thoughts.

Not long. That 3GB of VRAM is brutal for modern titles. Also the 3GB 1060 is slower than the 6GB model. 

 

If possible I would get the 6GB or at least get an RX 580 4GB.

Price? 1060 3gb is only considered because it's much cheaper than a 1060 6gb

i paid $281 and now the price rose up to $279.99 for the 3GB version

 

The 6GB version is $359.99 with tax its $389.44

then can you bear with reduced texture settings? That's what makes poorly optimized games break. Well-optimized games like GTA 5 and Far Cry 5 (as it seems) will run well even with ultra textures.

Yeah, GPU prices are brutal. These cards should be in the $200 range but stock is so low.

would that be necessary even at 720p? gonna be playing at that resolution for 5months if i dont find a way to get money.

Better get a card that's ready for 1080p, you shouldnt change cards just because you wont get 1080p yet.

 

At 720p just crank everything up no problem, it's 1080p that causes problems with using high textures. Lower that and avoid heavy AA like MSAA (FXAA is fine), the 1060 3gb will be a good card. It still has 90% the performance of the 1060 6gb when vram isnt a problem.

Well, I haven't had issues with my 780 yet, which also have 3GB of vram.  So I'd say it'll last a few more years yet.

Keep in mind though that I'd consider this the bare minimum.  Much like 1GB used to be, and 2GB just a year or two ago.

You'll be good for awhile, and it'll handle 1080p no issues at all.
