Another user account? Or like Macs in which you can duplicate multiple screens with the same desktop wallpaper?

No you can't, not natively to Windows. You can create virtual desktop, but the files and folders on your desktop are the same between each virtual desktop.

Your desktop is "your working area", and it is supposed to be clean beside the recycling bin, once your done with your work, that is. It is not designed to be an iPad, if you get what I am saying. :)

Maybe a third party software will do what you want by playing the game of hiding and showing files, but be prepared to handle possible name conflicts (you think you don't have a file which you put on the desktop, but you actually do on another desktop, or the program is just not showing it (bug) or you are seeing it, and you end up override the original file, loosing, possibly valuable amount of work). Remember that all files on your desktop as in the folder located in C:\Users\<Account name>\Desktop. It is a folder, is my point, so you can't have 2 or more files with the same name.

  • 1 year later...

One year later, I made my own research and have found nothing...

I'm thinking of tinkering for a workaround...
I would be possible to just move the "desktop" folder somewhere else in order to swap it out.

But would it be possible to detect an event of desktop swapping?

If so, then we could just listen to that event,
then move the current desktop items into, say, C://tmp/desktop[prev Desktop Number]
and finally, move a folder from C://tmp/desktop[new Desktop Number] to the real desktop location.

we'd need to set the icons display as sorted and in grid,
but that's a compromise I'd be willing to pay!

So,
anyone has a clue on how  to do this?
Anyone interested in using a solution like that?
