I am looking into a dual system setup with the enthoo mini xl ds. I am just looking for straight answers, no "dual system is dumb, just get two separate towers". So they include a power splitter, which allows you to plug a high wattage psu into it, and it splits it between the two internal systems. So when I turn on system, the power supply sends out power to all the connected components. But now if I have a second system, the hard drives, graphics card, and whatever else plugged into it, just stay off until the second system turns on, or does the gpu and hard drive turn on even though the mobo they are connected to is off?

Edit: Here is a link to the case and psu splitter, so you can see what I'm talking about.

I can see why you wanna do this and hey why not!

My issue I see here is power wise - The PSU will only come with 1x 24 pin and 1 8/4 pin ATX connector - is this what the power splitter does? I don't think the motherboard will get power until it gets a signal through the "front panel pwr on" header, which in turn wont send power through the PCIE connectors to the GPU. However, if the drives and the GPU are connected to the PSU then power will go to them and the GPU will have rail power but no power from the PCIE connector.

I think the easiest way to do this would be to use 2x smaller PSU's, one per system?

There is an option to run a second sfx power supply, but its a weird spot and the case is designed with the power splitter in mind.

it seems like you will always have both systems on, I'm not even sure how they get around the pwr on header issue for each board

edit

Seems you can power them, individually or false advertising xD

"With Enthoo Mini XL Dual System, users can run two fully functional system independently of one another. The Mini XL Dual System will have Phanteks Power Splitter and the Mini ITX upgrade kit pre-installed. The Mini XL Dual System provides users to have the option of having a high powered gaming system and workstation or Gaming system and streaming system all in one case."

Just not sure how they do it!

The product page say so:

Patented Isolated Dual System Technology
Using the Power Splitter, a dual system configuration can operate independently of one another. Powering ON/OFF on one system will not affect the other and vice versa. As long as one system is running the power supply will be fully operational until both systems are off.
