Come on, Linus swims in free 10 tb hardrives from seagate, so the cheapest option for him is to use those. Also it seems to me that you just dont understand how much money tech youtubers make. It is far better for him to use his own server, instead of giving amazon all his data.

I was wondering, why doesnt LMG use cold storage services like amazon glacier (or others) to store away old videos and contents which they wont be using in the near future, instead of physically storing it in their server.

Any thoughts ??

they don't physically store anything on a server. it's still digital

maybe if they transfered their videos to film then they could physically store it.

i just meant like instead of storing in in their own server, which obviously takes up way lot space, why not just use cold storages..

Cost, Control and security. There is always a trade off when you use cloud services for anything, in small volumes they are less expensive but you loose some level of control and some level of security verification (basically you have to trust the cloud service you are working with as much or more than you trust your own people). However there is a scale cost, when you get to a point cloud services get to be as expensive as in house or even more expensive depending on what you are doing. I have seen cases where a large company can spend $50K per month on cloud services that when brought in-house ended up with a total outlay of ~$200K in hardware and 2 additional $75K people so less than a year of what they were spending on cloud services to pay it back. Basically it all comes down to value/cost/security discussions at the end.

If you think about it, LTT gets all their drives sponsored for free, but if you use Amazon glacier, you actually have to pay for it. In addition, you can make videos off of the new drive systems that you make as Holy $h!t videos.

They get the drives for free , but im guessing they dont get free electricity to power all that up....

Come on, Linus swims in free 10 tb hardrives from seagate, so the cheapest option for him is to use those. Also it seems to me that you just dont understand how much money tech youtubers make. It is far better for him to use his own server, instead of giving amazon all his data.

I don't get what you're asking but if you're asking what's good for people with little money then I'd just go with a backup solution like backblaze, unlimited backup storage for 5$/mo
