I mainly play rainbow six siege , I got a 750 ti , i3-4170 and ASRock h81m motherboard , I'm looking to upgrade my CPU , I want a stable 100 + fps in siege , cuz with my current setup I get 65-90 rarely 120, on lowest settings 1280x1024 , that's how I aim to play on the upgraded CPU as well , my budget would be 150$ and I'm planning on using the used market, I was thinking abt ryzen 3 1200 o/c 3.9+ b350m gaming pro and 8 gb of RAM ddr4 2666 , but I'm not sure if the performance increase would be alot better I might be wrong , I've read some threads on forums about r3 1200 vs 4170 and ppl said it's not enough of an increase, what do you guys think?

Im getting the Ryzen 5 1600X myself and from what I hear its a great gaming CPU.

I actually already have it but I dont have my new SSD or RAM yet so I cant build it.

Ryzen is good but not quite as good as Intel at sheer frame rates. Clock speeds and single-threaded performance is what makes Intel CPUs shine when it comes to gaming.

Ryzen on the other hand is a better all-rounder CPU. Its pretty good at gaming but cant match Intel, meanwhile its multi-tasking and multi-threaded performance outright smashes Intel, especially for the price.

If you want high framerates from Ryzen then you need an X series CPU like mine for those extra clocks. You wont get 100 FPS from most games on a Ryzen 3 1200. The clock speeds are just too low.

Try to get one that can turbo to 4.0 GHz instead.

Also, I bought my MoBo off ebay. Look up "B350 Motherboard" and sort from low to high price on "Buy it Now" only. There is a 3rd party reseller selling full size ATX B350 boards that have been refurbished and are brand new in packaging with all accessories for about $60.

I got my R5 1600X + Mobo for the cool price of just $200 shipped.

EDIT: Note that Ryzen CPUs also really enjoy their high-speed RAM so to get the most out of it you should be running 2933MHz+ so keep in mind that overclocking RAM on Ryzen is a definite plus.

I've recently just upgraded from an i5-3470 to an R5 1600, and the difference is night and day, and I haven't even began tinkering with OC settings (I probably won't until the 3.2 clock seems slow, which shouldn't be for a loooooong time to come)

My old i5 ran at 99% CPU when playing GTA, but now barely breaks 40% on the R5. I highly recommend the R5 1600 (Get the X version if you're not bothered about the Wraith Spire...which I ended up swapping out anyway).

Don’t get the x, the 1600 and the x are the same chip with the x being sold at a higher clock speed. You could just overclock the 1600 to the x stock if you want x performance without paying extra. Unless you aren’t interested or don’t want to do an overclock and just have higher stock clocks.

in terms of getting an r-3 1200. id see and wait, and maybe get yourself a second hand ryzen as there will be people selling theirs in the advent of the new second gen ryzen. Also there is no good reason to not get the 2200G due to the MSRP being the same or lower. (note: the mobo might need a BIOS update to use it) so i would be on the lookout for the 2200G, or an second hand r-5 or r-3. you can maybe save a buck and put it into higher speed ram.

you are paying for a higher chance in the silicon lottery (i believe) and for the better cooler. Thats about it though. and most ryzen chips go to 3.9 ghz regardles

I suppose it guarantees you get the 4ghz clock, but you don’t get a better cooler with it. The x doesn’t come with a cooler.

you dont? well i guess i was mistaken. Doesnt guarantee. my 1500x doesnt like going above 3.9 in syntetics. i could probably do 4 ghz in gaming, but id rather not. i could bumb the voltage a bit more to get that 4 ghz mark, but after a few (4) continues cinabenches it crashes (i know your supposed to use Aida 64, but im a bit lazy)

When i said x I meant the 1600x, it turbos to 4ghz while the non-x turbos to 3.6ghz. It guarantees the 4ghz, which should be a given unless you got extremely unlucky with the non-x.

I personally got the 1600X because it was very lighlty used as a storage server CPU (basically sat idle the whole time) and was only 2 months old, it does also get a better chance at the Silicon lottery and it was literally the SAME price as the non-X 1600s going on eBay ($140 shipped).

This is why I prefer using the "Best Offer" option on eBay because you can get seriously good deals on CPUs that have barely been used at all.

For the mobo I think I can only use mATX for my case , the ram that I would get will be 4-4 ddr4 2666 for dual channel , even tho I don't think the b350m gaming pro will support dual channel, but I want some info on the performance increase , as for prices I can get the Mai b350m gaming pro for 50$ , the ryzen3 1200 would be 50$ aswell , and the ram ddr4 2666 8gb 45-50$ from some used market site

That PSU is a fire hazard. Get something like the Corsair CX550 or 550M instead (or at least a CM G450M).

I'd get a 2nd hand CPU, like an i5-4690 or an i7-4770/Xeon E3-1230v3 and PSU first, then upgrade the GPU later. It's cheaper than completely switching platforms for barely any improvement.

The xeon has more threads than the i5 4690 is that better performance or is it too low of an improvement to be noticeable? And am I able to OC any of them on the ASRock h81m?

The Xeon will last you longer because it has 8 threads. They can be had for reasonably cheap too. It's a better upgrade imo than going to a R3 1200 as it's actually slower than a Haswell i7.
