Are they 3 pin or 4 pin?

Question: How many people on this forum have the Define r4!?!?!

Everyone.

But yeah, OP. The number of fans is 3, but I kinda see the built in fan controller as meh. It's a switch that lets you choose from 5v, 7v and 12v. Kinda wish Fractal included individual knobs/sliders instead of the one switch for more precision.

Also, on another forum where someone asked a similar question, they got a response from Fractal that more or less said it's a bad idea to use adapters to overload the built in controller.

Are they 3 pin or 4 pin?

3pin, but I wouldn't stress the fan controller with ghetto rigging. Either connect via molex and resisters to not make it sound like a hurricane inside the case (sound proofing only works if the fans are also not obnoxiously loud) or get a fan controller with a lot more channels.

It's got 3 headers and each one delivers 30w of power so realistically you could plug 10 or so good quality fans into each of the 3 headers in the unit and it would still run them just fine

Thanks bud! :D

Personally I like the 5v,7v and 12v. Thanks for the response mate! :)

  • 3 months later...

Thanks bud! :D

Hey bud I had the same question and I was wondering how this worked out for you?  I'm so tired of using Corsair Link I want to punch it in the face.  It's so hit and miss when it wants to work.

Also, were you able to confirm that each channel can handle 30 wats?

I'm running my define R4 right now, and it's great it is handling the fans fine. I am unable to confirm about the 30 watts being used, not sure how to check it and I doubt I have the equipment. Sorry buddy :c Hope this helps! I have heard many complaints about Corsair Link, I personally don't use it, but many threads in the corsair forums are about it being problematic.

Glad it works for you.  I ended up getting a fan controller.  I don't know if I trust that the R4's case fan controller can handle more than 3 fans.. Maybe keep that in mind.

And yea Corsair Link needs an update. Badly. Corsair seems to have put it on the back burner for now.  Anyway without it my computer boots so much faster too.
