Sorry if this has been posted, but is ccleaner a dead program?  I haven't ran it in ages, basically since the malware was detected within it, but I just updated it and lowe and behold there is a "free antivirus" on my computer "Avast"

I'm gonna have to deal with this tomorrow but wanted to get feedback or any information

Audio go Brrrrrr

You probably clicked "next" couple times without unchecking the non-wanted applications so it installed avast and maybe other app at the same time.

Ccleaner is kinda useless for most people. You don't really need it. IF you just want to clear cache files you vcasn just run disk cleaner in windows

Not sure why Avast would've been installed out of nowhere from it, perhaps it was an option in the updater and you missed it or something.

I personally haven't touched CCleaner since the malware incidents, and don't see myself likely picking it back up in the future.

On another note, Avast isn't that bad, I've been using it for at least 6 years without any major issues. The only complaints I've had so far are that they're trying to push their paid stuff a little more recently (Though you can shut that up with some settings changes), and some of their modules/add-ons that are installed by default are useless or obnoxious, but they can be removed fairly easily. Other than that it's been great. (I leave it on the Silent/Gaming mode so it doesn't bother me at all)

I only use Ccleaner portable so no clue on what adware it has. Excellent cleaning software though.

CCleaner just isn't the same after the malware dection it had a while back, people just don't trust it.

There are better free open source cleaners avaible now gaining attention people would rather go with. So yer in a way, ccleaner is getting less popular.

Might add this later...

@Psittac back September of 2017 I posted in tech news and reviews item regarding 2m users install anti-malware program <link to post>

Piriform was purchased by Advast July 19, 2017, the company that owned and developed CCleaner, Recuva, Speccy, and Defraggler.

As for it being safe, I have downloaded a newer version and not had to deal with any of the Avast bloatware...obviously, other peoples mileage is varying.

Check the press release dated Monday, September 18, 2017, <link here>

Well Avast uninstalled rather easy and my malware and antivirus scan's came up clean so I guess it's ok.  I just have to take point's off for bundled software (though I typically notice it and uncheck) and I have to take points off for download pages that have ad's with "download now" on them.

Audio go Brrrrrr

I use it and install it on most computers for friends, the malware problem caused me a hectic week catching up and sorting peoples systems.  Been quiet since, just inform users not to update it especially if they're the type who would bloody install Avast!.
