RX580 on 3440x1440 monitor 100hz

Hi. I would like to build a desktop to be able to play games on Ultra-wide monitors at 1440p 100hz at ultra settings.

I'm a heavy MMO player and not planning to do any FPS games on this computer.

I mainly play Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2 and some Total War Series.

  • AMD RYZEN 5 1600X
  • G.SKILL TridentZ 16GB (2 x 8GB)
  • ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 580

I'm currently using dual monitors setting on 32" LG IPS Monitor at 1080p and 23" LG IPS Monitor at 1080p.

But for my non-gaming personal works and productivity, I really made up my mind to get a Ultra-wide monitor and use my old ones as backup.

So I did my research and most of the people were saying that RX 580 won't work on 1440p 144hz monitors.

Since I do not have an Intel CPU and Nvidia cards, I don't even want to get a monitor that can do more than 100hz.

If I'm only planning to do MMO games mainly, do you guys think RX 580 will work on 1440p 100hz?

The monitor that I was looking at was ASUS ROG Strix XG35VQ 35" Curved UWQHD 1440p 100Hz.

It'll work, but the RX 580 may not get 100FPS depending on the game at that resolution.

He doesn't play AAA games, shouldn't be an issue

I had a 1060 with a 1440p144hz (16:9) screen. That was kind of the max I would go with it, I wouldn’t want an ultra wide for gaming on less than a 1070.

I’m fairly sure stuff like WoW and Everquest run well though. Unless you’re planning to keep the card for a very long time I’d go for the monitor and just get a new card later

That's an F in the profile pic

Yeah... I really wanted to get a RX Vega but they are extremely expensive at the moment. So I was thinking of getting the monitor first and change the graphics card once the GPU prices get stabilized.

Agree, but to expand, it depends on the game and the settings. I think Ultra is unrealistic unless it is a particularly old or undemanding game. I'm not familiar with the ones mentioned to know how they might fit in, but don't fear dropping to "high" if you need to get the fps up.

I note the listed monitor is FreeSync, and that should help a LOT. Even if the fps is lower, it should help it feel more responsive and without tearing.
