Final Fantasy XV running poorly

katoptrys

No matter what, I can set the graphics to Average, High, or Highest, and I'll get between 30-60 FPS in a very inconsistent manner, and during fights it will drop to the low 20s or even further down.

Is it possible it is due to the low amount of RAM in my computer? Disk usage tends to be high, and I have a 5400 RPM HDD that doesn't help matters

I dont think so, I managed to get it working smoothly with 8GB RAM

I guess the card run out of VRAM?

the 1060 3GB may have some trouble keeping up, it does meet the minimum specs, but not the recommended.

also, make sure to update your gpu drivers to version 391.01. nvidia released game ready drivers for FFXV

FFXV is a beast of a game. I can barely run at a solid 50fps, which drops to high 30's during really intensive fights.

I'm running an 1800X OC'd to 4.1ghz, Dual 1080s in SLI (with Profile to enable, it gives about a 20% boost), 32GB of ram at 3333, and running off of a Samsung 850.

Settings are all at highest, with Nvidia Hairworks and the Grass one (don't remember the name) turned off, as SLI in FFXV doesn't like those settings.  Also Motion Blur turned off. Running at 3440x1440.  Runs around 14GB-20GB of System RAM while running, and about 60-70% across both GPUs with 7GB of VRAM, and CPU has no single core pegged with about 50% usage across the board.

So it seems your FPS is on par for the game at settings.  With none of my Hardware pegging at 100% (Unless I turn off SLI, then 1 GPU is pegged at 100), it seems the game might not be that optimized yet.

Turn on the FPS option in settings, you can see how much VRAM the game is using.  Try setting to custom and turning down TRAM, as the 1070 doesn't have as much memory.

  • 2 weeks later...

I like to play games with the FPS monitoring on since I'm a curious guy.

FFXV is a heavy game as Evanair says above me. I can run it at 2560x1440 on hi settings with the hi-res add on pack and get a average of 80fps with My Ryzen 1800x and Strix Vega 64.  It usually uses between 7 - 15GB of system memory.  When I stream it dips to around 50fps

There is a page called systemrequirementslab. They have a list of game specs + a system scan tool to see if your system can play the game. I have not tried the scan tool myself.

Here are some numbers from one of my streams, as you can see it uses a lot of memory. This is 2560x1440 on hi settings

I finally upgraded up to 16GB of RAM. No more FPS drops. It was a mix of low VRAM, low system memory and slow as hell HDD. Oh well
