Right Benchmarks for graphic design

Go to solution Solved by emosun,

You don't really need to run any benchmarks as the system with ddr2 is probably the slowest although I wasn't even aware an i7 could be paired with ddr2.

Hi everyone, i wonder which benchmarks should i run to compare 2 pcs in order to decide which one to keep for moderate graphic design tasks... I have a 2 year MSI GT70 ONC laptop with newer intel i7 and 16gb ddr3 ram (up to 32gb) but the 3gb gpu is dead now and i wont replace it since it works fine with the gpu disabled... and i also have an old i7 desktop with 16gb ddr2 (its maxed out) and a basic 2gb gpu... i built a new pc so now i have the task to measure wich one of them is better specifically at graphic design to sell the other one and i would really appreciate your advice on this...

Illustrator mostly... catalogs, pop, 2d photo, etc... Not 3d stuff with them since i just built a powerful pc for 3d, coding and renders... But i need to measure two of my oldest pcs (both of them mentioned above) to decide wich one of them to keep/sell based on data since they seem to perform quite the same... i want to know which benchmarks should i run to compare them...

Then the best way is to install the illistrator trial and run a project and see which one is faster at doing your normal tests.

But if your just getting a gpu, it won't matter as illistrator doen't use much gpu at all.

It's an 8 year old i7-2600 3.4Ghz and yes its working at maxed out 16Gb ddr2... i guess it even has some room for upgrade it but it's impossible to find more ddr2 ram in my country and it has no sense at all to keep upgrading the oldest pc in the office... but while it has a gt730 2gb gpu it still works at fairly good speed (i'd say even a little faster than the msi gt70 laptop with disabled broken gpu) that's why i wanted to somehow measure their performance to compare them

ok it would seem you are the only person on planet earth who has an i7 system with ddr2 in it

in that case I would keep the system as it's the only one that exists. perhaps it's a special intel test bench to see if ddr2 could be used with an i7 and it somehow got into public hands

HAHAHAHA.... you just made my day bro i ran cpuz to discover as you might knew already you were right and it seems its running a ddr3 ram and i really don't know why the sticker on the ram cards seem to be wrong... that might be the reason my parts provider can't find compatible ram cards to update this pc hahahaha... this is a game changer i'm selling the laptop with the broken gpu then since i can still upgrade the gpu and ram on this pc even if it's the older one in my office... you helped a lot in a way i didn't expected thanks man...
