Does voltage really "eat FPS" on Fiji?

I was reading about overclocking on my card more in depth than I had before last week, and I saw someone claim "On Fiji (R9 Fury specifically for me) voltage actually consumes FPS so undervolting is at least as good as overclocking" which just plain seems to be wrong from my limited Heaven benchmarks. Is there any actual proof or is this some meme that caught on and most people actually believe?

I havent heard of this in Fiji, but this is true on Vega graphics cards because high voltage causes the power limit to kick in earlier on (power equals voltage multiplied by current), so undervolting helps reaching higher clocks.

if I remember fury x  power throttles  so you’re hitting a power limit

This looks like a visual representation of what you're saying so it looks like my original assumption was correct, people are idiots and undervolting has no logic at all. Minor overvolting with the power limit maxed on the other hand...

I had an R9 Fury (Sapphire Nitro model) and I never experienced anything like what you mentioned, when I was overclocking I got to 1160MHz core/560MHz memory stable with +38mV and got almost 17500 points GPU score in FireStrike. Power limit and temp limit were both increased to the max as well.

That's wrong. Voltage control is all about giving the least amount possible at the corresponding frequency. Undervolting is good if you dont plan on overclocking.

The sapphire nitro is the best thing since sliced bread. I got mine for I think around $220 and it outperformed the 1060 which I believe was $260 for the cheap stock cooling ones and over $300 for the ones with cooling equivalent to the nitro. And it overclocks crazy well

There's no end point to undervolting though, the +75mv limit given in pretty much all 3rd party OC utilities will be safe to run 24/7 for a decade or more. If you're worried about saving 50w on a system that already draws 500w ignoring the GPU, then sure undervolt... but it's not saving the GPU or anything to undervolt like some people think.

it also reduces heat output. I mean, I only undervolt because I dont need any extra performance: vsync or frame rate limiter is always doing its work in my case.
