My 1 out 2x8 ram vengeance 3200mhz is dead. Can i use 2x4 3200mhz vengeance ram? To make it 16

yep that will work, but id just get anuther 8gb stick. it doesnt have to be the exact same.

You can generally mis-match ram sizes now as long as theyre the same format and at least close to the same speed.

8 + 4 + 4 is what im thinking youre trying to do, an yeah it shouldnt cause any issues, as long as you stick the 4+4 in one color channel and the single 8 in another color channel

You have a bad stick from a 2x8GB pair of ram?

Now you are left with 1x8GB but you have another 2x4GB to make 16GB

I'd say go for it !!!!!!!!!

I did try the dead stick on 4 slots. Its really dead.

And my 8 ram is 3200

But if i buy 2x4 2400will it work?

You can but you will loose max. possible Clock Rate, especially with 3200MHz RAM. With 4 Sticks you can forget that wich makes those high clock rate ones rather pointless.

 

So just RMA it...
