Would mining specific nvidia cards actually work out well and appeal for miners

I don't think they will appeal to miners unless they make them good for gaming so that the miners can resell them if things go badly.

What do you guys think?

I would not buy some mining specific card, because that would essentialy be an ASIC, losing all of its value after some time, or instanly if things go south.

I think higher production assuming you can source memory for them would make everyone happy

The problem is that despite the intended use of modern video cards, they're really no more than general purpose computing processors. You literally cannot make a "mining only" GPU based on a graphics one because the only thing that would change is the software sending jobs to the GPU. And you can easily hack that.

I feel like at this point mining is here to stay. AMD and NVIDIA should take the risk and up the manufacturing of their mainstream cards. 

Though, it might take multiple months for us to see that.

People are taking out large loans and utilizing credit to buy pallets of the damn things. This will only make them more money and will not ease up on people buying cards for mining rather thsan gaming. All the miners will just buy all those, too. They will see ROI in a few months and then profit. They continue to tap out the gaming card market until the perfect storm, if the bubble bursts. Which, I don't see that happening.

Board partners need to assume the risk, not NVIDIA or AMD. Board partners have stated that they can easily buy more GPUs, they just elect not to because of how some board partners got burned the last time mining crashed.

So good that they’ve already released and died out because no one wanted them. 

 

It wasn’t a bad idea but miners make more money selling the cards for not too massive losses afterwards

I know there has been talk of setting it up in the BIOS on the cards ment for gaming to brick the card if it is used for mining or if the BIOS is tampered with. On the other hand, the alleged mining only cards wouldn't have any display output, thusly hurting their chances at resale(though I have had someone try to claim that their tezla was great for gaming and mining, HA!).

I'm not disagreeing it's a bad idea, but there's going to be a ton of grief from a vocal minority if they lock down the BIOS.

 

On the other hand, at least when the cards get so old, the Chinese eBay scammers can't reflash it into making it look like another GPU.

I agree. It would solve some of the issues with supply for gamers, though it would cause issues with miners crying more about how they are victoms and how they are being denied products that are rightfully theirs and how the rest of us aren't using them properly, AND it would cause issues with a very niche group of people that are still very much there that want to mod the BIOS like hardcore overclockers.

Why not just get cards like normal and not worry about what others are doing.
