are backdoors bad for my pc and do they provide access to hackers into my computer can they control the computer ?

what counter measures can I take

The term backdoor implies that an exploit is put into the system purposefully. According to Edward Snowden that does happen. There's only two ways to fix that: Stop using a computer, or else write your own OS based on some kernel (or even write your own kernel).

Exploits, on the other hand, exist mostly accidentally due to bugs or oversight. Modern Operating systems are overwhelmingly complex, these bugs are relatively common. They are normally fixed pretty quickly. The problem is that by the time you and I know they exist, it's probably too late, the exploit may have already been used. Think about the famous Shadow Brokers NSA exploit dump: By the time we knew about them, they had already been collecting them for years. Who knows what they really did with them before they posted them publicly? The NSAs response to the dump: Post the source to some of their tools to a github page.

And don't get started on silicon bugs.

There are some things you can do. Use a nice antivirus, have a firewall, only go to risky sites in a VM, and run MalwareBytes regularly. But beyond that, the only perfect solution to not being open to exploits is to stop using computers.

ENCRYPTION IS NOT A CRIME
