what board do you have?

 

You need 8x or 16x for sli, you can't sli with a 4x.

i have g43-970a+ my main question is tho if it would hurt the motherboard if were to try to put the two cards in.The lanes are 16x and 4x

You can't run sli then, you need 990fx for sli.

 

It won't hurt the board, the second card just won't help in games.

 

Also why the 8800gt, that is slow slow these days.

 

You also need matching cards for sli.

Ok thanks for all the help it really helped .But im on a really low budget and i got 2 8800 gts and a sli bridge for 15 dollars so i think it was a good deal.I'm saving up money for a 1060 or 1070 .

what gpu do you currently have? Those cards aren't even dx11 so many games just won't play. And you can't use sli.
