My aunt is giving me her old Dimension 3000 With a 2.8ghz P4 and 1.25gb DDR ram for building her a new computer. 80gb HDD and Windows xp. I could salvage some parts, or give it away. Just wondering if it's worth anything.

i'm completely guessing here but probably a hundred watts or so. i have a few old HP's lying around that have 230W psu's and P4's so it cant be much more that a 100 i bet.

P4 will use up more power than anything modern, save yourself the headache and toss it, you'll pay more in the long run with the P4, unless you need a winter time space heater, then keep it and load it up in the winter, will warm your room nicely.

I have a Dimension 3100 over in the corner of my office, hasn't been turned on in a year, but of course government departments, you don't throw away anything ever.

Sell it locally for about 50 bucks, someone will buy it if it works. probably say its best used as a word processor nothing more.

You could sell it for $45 easy on craigslist/kijiji . Or like $60 but i prefer to sell things quiickly.

I actually did that with a p4 3.0 machine I had clocked to 3.4ghz, it would warm my room up in 2-4 hours of 100% load. especially with the extremely hot agp HD3850
