Does a monitor contain a embedded computer?

tehx

I thought a monitor did contain a embedded computer within it to decode the video signal from the computer. l put it down as a answer for 'give examples of embedded systems' for my computing assignment but got it wrong. How can a monitor not have a embedded computer inside.

There's at the very least one for operating the on-screen display. Then again, everything these days has one, so if they wanted more from you, the question should not have been so vague.

If the instructor is trying to say a monitor doesn't count they sound picky.  Maybe they wanted systems more to the tune of : ATM's , CnC Machines, digital signage, routers, and other systems with embedded-style components (smart Tvs? DVRs?).

it depends on the type of monitor, a modern monitor yes they will have a simple PC in it, it can't do much more than the menus and the displaying an output though, an old cathode ray monitor nope, they are all done by voltage variation changing t projection of elections being fired at the screen so no. So the answer is depends. A better answer would be a TV

The owner of "too many" computers, called

The Lord of all Toasters (1920X 1080ti 32GB)

The Toasted Controller (i5 4670, R9 380, 24GB)

The Semi Portable Toastie machine (i7 3612QM (was an i3) intel HD 4000 16GB)'

Bread and Butter Pudding (i7 7700HQ, 1050ti, 16GB)

Pinoutbutter Sandwhich (raspberry pi 3 B)

The Portable Slice of Bread (N270, HAHAHA, 2GB)

Muffinator (C2D E6600, Geforce 8400, 6GB, 8X2TB HDD)

Toastbuster (WIP, should be cool)

loaf and let dough (A printer that doesn't print black ink)

The Cheese Toastie (C2D (of some sort), GTX 760, 3GB, win XP gaming machine)

The Toaster (C2D, intel HD, 4GB, 2X1TB NAS)

Matter of Loaf and death (some old shitty AMD laptop)

windybread (4X E5470, intel HD, 32GB ECC) (use coming soon, maybe)

And more, several more

You can create an ASIC for it that's just for decoding the input signal and outputting it appropriately. And if you have multiple signals, you have an ASIC for each and demux the output to drive the LCD.

But this sounds like a case of someone being pedantic.

They have micro controllers. But nothing more sophisticated than that. If we disregard any improvements to panel quality and features, only thing that has get more advanced since early TVs is OSD. Think what you can do now with monitor without it being connected to anything. Its just switching between some settings that need some memory chip with battery. So monitor has just as much computing power as BIOS.
