Thoughts on the Nissan Skyline GT250 (Infiniti G25)

Shammikit

Hello, my dad atm owns a Audi A4 B5 and he plans on trading it to a 2001 Skyline GT250 (also known Infiniti G25 in European countries). Would like to know if anyone had owned one of these and if its a good trade. He went to see the car and brought some pictures and the car to me is not a good looker. specially the front and the interior is also meh.. would like to know if it is entertaining to drive as its got a 2.5L V6 which i guess is more powerful compared to the 1.8L of our Audi.

We didn't get that model here in the states (at least not with that 2.5 liter engine, we got the 3.5 liter), but in general, the G-Series Infinitis are pretty reliable cars.  They can be kind of expensive as far as maintenance goes, but that's the nature of owning a "luxury" car with a complex engine design.  Here in the states (probably the same everywhere but idk) luxury car parts are more expensive than their "non-luxury" counterparts.  Even if the parts are the same, Acura parts are more expensive than Honda parts, Lexus parts are more expensive than Toyota, and Infiniti parts are more expensive than Nissan.

You will always run into the same issue with any used car though, and that issue is whether or not the car has been taken care of.  I ran into this issue with my latest car.  I thought I was getting a good deal but the guy I bought it off of lied about pretty much all of the work he said was done to the car, and I got stuck dumping about 3 grand into my Lexus.

I was in the market for a second hand car and was looking at a Mitsubishi FTO. Test drive went great, so I took it into VTNZ and got a vehicle check. Turned out it ran like crap and had a lot of problems. Always get a vehicle check. Guy was a bit angry he kept telling me he replaced all the fluids so it should run like new smh. Good move really for some reason it had the battery from a Nissan Micra. Always have to beware on the second-hand market. Definitely get a mechanic to look over it.

Honestly unless it was his dream car or something, I don't why anyone would go for that. It's not particularly interesting, exciting, or good looking. Would rather work harder, save up and get something more recent.

The trick is to go to the parent brand dealer and ask the service department if they can do that work (which they often will since the cars are so similar). It's often much cheaper to get the work done at the parent dealer. A local car reviewer here does that with his Porsche. Gets the same work done at a much cheaper rate at a VW dealer than at a Porsche dealer. Same platforms so the work is almost identical.

Almost forgot. The Audi is probably worth more than the skyline. Depends if the skyline is turbo but this model isn't. Depends on the market however.

It would be a nice project car though.

it is very ugly to me, but father says its a good deal and he thinks it can be sold at a much higher price like 5 grand more. the car is actually like 8 grand less compared to other sellers. idk why the current owner is selling it so cheap. he has a loan for the car i guess and i think he is having trouble paying it and so he is giving it cheap. need to check on that, im not sure.my dad went and met the person and test driven the car. he came home and said the car felt very powerful and the ride was comfortable. the only down side he has seen is the bad paint of the car.

I explained about the bad looks of the car and he said maybe we could get a Nissan GTR front face and could solve it. * Inner Ricer intensifies* xD
