PC doesn't recognize Nexus 5X

Hello,

 

Recently I got a problem with my Google Nexus 5X: it doesn't show up in my computer.

I've tried enabling USB Debugging and disabling it, changing it from Charge Only to MTP, restarting both devices and it's still not being recognized.

It doesn't show up in Device Manager and there's no Drop down notification that gives you the option to change from MPT to Only Charge and vice-versa.

When I plug my phone to my computer using the USB C cable provided in the box it just immediatly starts charging.

Just something that happened to me, with kind of similar outcome.

 

Got a USB Cable to charge my phone, but well it was only a charging cable, no data wires at all. So connecting it to my computer would charge it, but not find it as device... just a plain USB Power cable without the data wires.

 

Perhaps the cable you received is as well only a charging and not a fully wired USB cable.

@Anghammarad Oh but I don't think that's the case since it worked 5 months ago with my older computer. I don't usually try to transfer data from my phone to my computer but 5 months ago I transfered stuff to my old computer using the same cable and it worked... It was the first and last time that I transfered stuff using this cable.

Then you can check settings in the bios, some motherboards have options to deactivate those, or switch modes. 

 

Else with my current board some usb 3.0 devices aren't recognized or run slow when connected to usb 3, but as soon as I put them into the usb 2.x they work.

Can't say where the settings are hidden in your bios =) 

 

In my ASRock one they were I think under the southbridge menu with all the other peripherial connector configurations...

 

Yes the Fatal1ty Z77 Pro board is kind of sick... the only thing missing (from memory right now) are ISA slots... else still got PCI, serial, parallel, usb 2.0, 3.0, pata, floppy, irda, and a crap load of sata 3 and a few sata 2...

 

Most of that stuff is configurable in the bios. on off, compatibility mode if given etc.

@Anghammarad Oh. :P I found this (see image). I'm not sure if that does help but when I click the setting "USB Single Port Control" it gives me a lot of ports and they're all enabled.

So your board already recognized some peripherials... 

 

Now the question, is your phone connected, if yes, do you have to usb storage devices connected also? or is one of those your phone?

 

When thinking back, iirc at some time I needed to install a special USB driver to windows 10 to recognize my Lumia as phone and not as storage device... or find it at all... I can't remember if it was due the phone running 8.1 or the phone running 10. *scratches head* bear with me I'm old :P

Go to device manager and dry to find your device (It might say something ADB and it might be in the unspecified section.). From there check properties and select Browse my computer for driver software -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer -> check "Show compatible hardware" -> choose "MTP USB Driver"

@Anghammarad None of the devices listed there are my phone. :/ Also, I saw on some forums that I would maybe need to install a driver for my Nexus 5X but I don't know which driver it is and how to do it. BTW I've Windows 10. I just now downloaded an app from the playstore which is called "USB Driver for Android" so I'm hoping it'll do the trick for me but I would also want to install a driver for my PC as well. And btw any help is very appreciated =)

Woops, yah you need to be able to detect the device (Anything titled unknown or ADB) but since you can't that doesn't help

Only other idea I have is to install Android Studio and then add the drivers through the SDK manager.
