I am about to buy a new workstation.

The system contains

TR 1950x, with a more or less standard fan (Not going to overclock like crazy)

2x asus 1080ti Strix

64GB DDR4 3200 MHz / PC4-25600 (Are going to upgrade to 128 at some point)

On a Gigabyte X399 AORUS Gaming 7

Some SSD's and m.2 disks.

I am doing very heavy 3D work, in houdini, and I am rendering with octane, so only on the GPU's (Going to simulate on CPU or render on GPU almost day and night)

When I type my information in to Outervision's power supply calculator, it recommends a 1200W power supply. I then saw a review of the "Corsair HX1200i" where they only recommended 1200W if you have 4 hi end graphic cards.

I really don't know much about how the hardware draws power, when combined.. Maybe someone can give me a pointer of what I really need for this setup?

PCPP Calculator says around 800 watts, adding in storage devices and such, you're looking at around 500-600 watts pulled from the wall under heavy loads.. I recommend either a 750 watt PSU, or, to be safe, a 850 watt PSU.

The 1950x@stock consumes about 180W underload (or about 325W when OCed to 3.9GHz) while a 1080ti underload consumes about 275W (or 300+ if you overclock). 1000W is perfectly adequate if you're not overclocking however the second you overclock both the 1950x and 1080tis, a 1000W PSU will stuggle if you put both the CPU and GPU under a synthetic-like load at the same time (but under a more normal load, it should be fine).

Dewit, its a very good power supply. Another excellent option is Seasonic's 1000W prime (Plat rated ver.) which costs slightly more but is better than the HXi.

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...
