Anyone with a Opteron CPU system?

Im really curious of getting some up to date values on the hashrate of a Opteron 6172 or any other Opteron CPU mining Cryptonight mining something like Monero.

Easy and quick test would be to download a program called Minergate, and then mining XMR (Monero) and reporting your average hashrate after a minute.

Anyone with a working Opteron system who could provide me some direct info on that would be much appreciate!

why you want cpu mining? its not worth it i think.

the fact that you can have a quad socket system, makes them of interest. They could be efficient crypto miners if the price and performance is right. We are talking 48 cores. Could make a good system to then add GPUs to.

Cryptonight algorithm coins such as Monero can be efficiently mined by CPUs.

i would think the TDP of the chips would eat into your profits, especially if running server CPUs that are out of date

48 2.1ghz core with 80watt x4 power, are you sure its effective?

its a 45nm cpu, what good is the core count if the ipc is bad, plus no hyperthreading.

i think a dual 2670 can overtake it. 16 core 32 threads at 3.3ghz.

around the same tdp total.

I've actually got a miner with opterons in it, however they are newer chips than the 6172 you reference. I have a dual socket board with 2 opteron 6380 chips that hash cryptonight at about 525h/s per chip. The tdp on these chips is about 125w a piece, so I think it's worth it for a basic rig if you can get the rest of the parts cheap enough. I would also recommend going with a dual socket board just so you can get some extra pcie slots for GPU mining.

525H/s per chip and only 125W each? Thats pretty good. What did you pay for the system or CPUs?

Your reply is exactly what i was curious about, thank you.

What OS and software are you using to mine?

I'm using windows 10 pro as the os (board activated without a key when I tried it lol) and xmr-stak for a miner. I got the chips for $100 a piece off eBay, and the board for $150. I'm also running 8x1gb sticks of ram because that's what was cheap.

The board I have is a super micro h8dgi-f which is a dual socket board with 6 pcie slots. I also have some assorted gpus in there totalling 3.2khs on cryptonight pulling about 850w from the wall.
