Greetings! I'm planning on changing the CPU in my computer, what do I need to know? the socket is an LGA 1150 (I think) will I need to re apply thermal paste? is there an LTT video that covers this nicely?

yes you will need the change thermal paste All you do is put a dot of thermal paste in the middle then put your cooler back on

Yes you will if you don't want to commit a cardinal sin. Just look up any of their build-logs, they go over how much you need.

2. Yes use thermal paste. A dot is enough, about the size of a pea.

I am currently using it for gaming, works well other then (what I think is) the CPU bottle-necking

I'm hoping the performance difference will be a lot, for the better :P

 

So I can't just get away with re using the paste that's still on the Cooler? that's what I figured.

That's not LGA 1150. That's LGA 2011-3 or 2011 v3. What CPU do you have?

i5-4690s or i7-4790s?

 

Arctic Silver 5 will do, though I heard Thermal Grizzly to be good as well. Bad brands are plenty, so just focus on the good ones.

I myself would ignore those. Usually only as good as Intel's stock formula.

These unbranded stuff usually has Intel stuff's performance, but none of its durability
